I think I have a binge eating disorder...

Quote  |  Reply

I found some information on binge eating and it said if you over eat even after you stomach is full, one or more a month, than you could have binge eating disorder. This month, and last month(2 times), I have over eaten way too much I couldn't even move(only sleep or sit) for the rest of the day. I really think I might have binge eating disorder. Before, I used to be 125 pounds like two months ago, now I am 5'2" and 133 pounds and I am overweight. Im overweight for my age, according to the childrens and teens bmi calculator. So when I weighed 125 pounds, I was actually normal weight. I am really really depressed about this. I feel like I will never get back to 125 pounds. Its like now im going to become overweight for the rest of my life if I cant stop eating. I eat only when Im hungry, but I still gain weight. Today, I ate how much calories I needed for the whole day, and I still eat. I ate about half a bag of carrots and I was hungry. After that, I drank 16oz of water and my stomach was growling. This is all horrible, I dont know why I cant stop this eating. I dont think it will ever stop, my first month of bingeing, I didn't gain weight. This has been going on for about 4 months. Im much farther from my goal weight now... Also, now im considered overweight so I really need help with this.

Before, I used to eat very little everyday, only because I never exercised. Now I try to cut on my exercising but I still have this problem. This binging started when I exercised everyday, but now I only exercise 3x a week. I think exercising has to do with this problem.

If you didn't take enough calories, it's normal to feel hungry. And it's normal to eat when you're hungry.

I wouldn't consider half a bag of carrots a binge...unless it was a 10kg bag Undecided

I know that its normal to feel hungry, but I shouldn't gain 8 pounds from eating when Im hungry. Also, eating half a bag of carrots isn't a binge, what I said was I already ate enough today and nothing really fills me up. Ty for the link though

When you over eat how many calories are you going over? Do you know why you over eat? Binge eaters tend to eat to fill up their stomaches because they feel empty inside. They want to eat to satisfy some feeling as in loneliness, depressed, angry, hurt, and there are many more. Binge eaters eat and eat and eat because in most cases its not hunger causing them to eat such large amounts but its an emotional problem. When people who have this disorder their stomaches aren't really connected to their brains...it's like the mind and feelings take over and they cannot control themselves.

Before you classify yourself as a binge eater I think you need to look at the reasons why you eat...if its only hunger then I would advise more protein to fill you up and keep you fuller for longer.

As far as the exercise thing goes...if you are eating more and not burning off those extra calories you will gain weight. Just like the saying goes " calories in versus calories out". Have you been keeping track of the amount of calories you are eating?

I use to have this problem really bad and now I've seemed to have gotten it under control. I ate too much out of depression or boredom. My advice is to keep yourself busy. When you are busy you don't even have time to think about eating. That took care of my eating because there was nothing else to do. As for depression eating, I tried a couple of different things. I first tried battling my own emotions. Everytime I got up to go to the kitchen I would ask myself if I was hungry. If I was not hungry then I would call a friend or go for a walk. Even then, the urge to eat sugary foods especially still took over. At that point I took on a "if you can't beat em join em" apprococh. I bought foods that were less bad for me than say ice cream, cookies, or even chips. I bought food that was hard to get to such as pistachios. That worked because it took care of my boredeom and I got to eat something which is ultimitely what I wanted. I know how hard it is to stop emotional eating. I still can't always help myself and it makes me crazy. See if these little tricks help you out and if you need someone that understands where you're coming from or you need more advice please let me know!

that's it exactly. bernadette, have you had experience with BED - either personally or with someone close..? i don't mean to pry - and feel no need to answer if it's way too personal a question.  just wondering, because i am suffering from this and you've described my situation/feelings when in the throes of a binge to a tee--

It might be because you were not giving yourself enough calories, i.e. you were leaving yourself too hungry for too long over long periods of time, and your body would eventually rebel and say 'feed me!'. It felt out of balance so it tried to make up for the deprivation? This has happened to me before, and I found that by eating enough instead of too little, over time, your body is happy and doesn't rebel and want to binge.

musicalfishmich...you aren't prying at all! i have no experience with BED or anyone that is close to me. I have read about it and thought about it and kind of placed my self in their shoes, sort of speak.
