i've been trying to lose weight for quite some time now.
i've observed a pattern over the last 3 months at least: more or less once every 2 weeks i binge for about 2 days for about 1000 cals over maintenance each day.after every binge period i gain back the weight that i had lost in the 2 weeks prior to the binge and each time i hope it is water weight but it takes me another 2 weeks to lose it and then i binge again and the cycle repeats itself.and i'm at the same weight i've been since i've started.
i don't want to binge.i know it's a problem but i've made some progress in solving it up till now and of course i hope to never binge again.
well....given that overall i do have a deficit,why haven't i lost anything?shouldn't i be losing anyway,if the binges aren't that big?
this is really frustrating and i really want to stop binging but i wonder if i'll ever lose weight even if i do stop because it doesn't seem to be happening.
btw. i'm 16
weight: 61-62 kg(can't get below that)this is my starting weight in september
height: 170 cm (5'7'')
i eat 1500 on normal days when i don't work out and about 1700 on the days i work out for about 30 min.
If you can figure out how to stave off the binges, let me know.
It seems I can gain 3-4 pounds in a single day if I lose control. And that is 2 whole weeks of weightloss down the drain.
Maybe, if you KNOW you're about to lose your willpower, eat a bunch of fiber first? It will fill you and you might binge less. So if you feel yourself heading for the pizza, eat two cups of broccoli THEN the pizza. You'll eat less of the bad thing in the long run, but you still get the feeling of eating till you burst.
I dunno if it's popular to suggest pills, but I have had luck with the kinds that expand in your tummy and trick you into thinking you're full. Then you go on your binge, but can only fit half of what you normally can...
i do the same thing. well, i will do good for like a month or two then ruin it with two weeks of terrible binge eating. it isnt healthy. i really dont have an answer for you either. i know how to stop binging by drinking water and eating more veggies...but for myself i lack the will power. im an emotional eater, a problem im working on slowly but surely =)
My binges are typically emotional. When I know why I'm binging I'm able to control them. Binging feels terrible, and it's a big goal of mine to control these moments. I believe that I'll probably always binge from time to time.
I'm perplexed why you're gaining all of that weight back in only two days. I've binged once or twice during my diet, and I continued to lose weight after getting right back on track. (I don't try to make up for the binges the next day.) Given your weight and height, I wonder if you're simply at your ideal size?
Laura
thank you all for responding.
not losing weight is really really frustrating for me.
i don't think i'm at my ideal size and i say this because about a year ago i was 59kg and then i wanted to lose weight and until june i got down to about 55-56kg.
then over the summer i had serious binging problems and by august-september i was at 62kg.and i've been trying ever since to at least get back to about 58.
Hello lallaa: I know what your problem might be. Your real problem might be that your diet is too strict and too low in calorie, which to a feeling of boredom, deep-hunger, tiredness, pain and feelings of alienation like you cannot go on the diet no more and that feeling grows, more and more as the days on your strict diet goes by. Maybe that's the real reason of why after 2 long weeks of pain and hunger you just give up and cannot take it no more. I think that is happening to me too.
And i will find a way out of it, by eating an 800 to 1000 calorie pancake every saturday night. My regular dinner has about 500 calories, so that day i would only eat 500 extra calories.
I think u can try that too, u could have 500 to 1000 calories extra once a week instead of dieting real strict for 2 weeks which is too long and painful and leads to an all pig out night of pizzas, ice cream oreos-fig bars, doritos, corn dogs, burgers, cakes, pies, which might lead you to eat 5000 calories in a single night.
And if u think bout it eating 500 to 1000 calories extra once a week won't make u fat at all, won't even put on 1 lb. coz to gain 1 lb u would need 3500 calories extras.
So try that if u want, i mean try to eat 500 to 1000 extra-calories over what you have on saturdays.
lallaa;
At 167cm and 61-62kg, your BMI states you are at 21 (which is a normal weight range). May I ask what your goal weight is that you are hoping to achieve? You stated 58kg, which i believe is sufficent.
Dont become frustrated; sometimes it just needs adjustment and time to see results.
At 16, I believe you need more calories than you are consuming. Teenagers need 2000 calories; minimum. I have learnt through my own journey of weight loss, that I lost weight by consuming MORE than less calories (& obviously consuming more healthy options). I also believe your binging is the result of such a low calorie amount for your age and activity level.
You can also try increasing your fibre intake as well as protein to keep you fuller for longer.
All the best!
xx
