Why Binge?
I'm at a decently healthy weight at the moment (5'3" 130lbs), have a lot of muscle, but also some fat covering it up..so I'm trying to lose 10lbs.
I do well until I find some random excuse to eat...(like, it's the weekend....). I've read a million articles giving advice on how to distract yourself from cravings, etc, but it doesn't work! Even while I'm eating, I think to myself that I should wait and see if it goes away (nope, 20 minutes later I'm just craving it 10x more), or if I can just eat a small bit and be done (nope again, "that tasted good...I'm just going to eat some more..") all the while I KNOW that I'm going to feel way too full after it, and that I'm not hungry, yet no amount of logical thought can stop it.
Does anybody have any scientific or just really thoughtful ideas to why some of us do this? We know all the facts, all the tricks, and yet, nothing works.

Jazz.... i am exactly where you are on this one. i see "tips" and crap,
and like... It never works. Eventually i just go, "Whatever". i binge,
and pay for it later by exercising or fasting. It's a vicious,
annoying, horrid cycle, but i haven't figured out how to stop it yet.
So i just binge ocassionally, and then deal with it afterwards.
i've given this a lot of thought - (Because it's really disturbing when you feel like you have no control in this "thing") and i've just figured that our bodys are programmed to overeat at times. i mean, even little kids do it ocassionally. Your body starts craving all the addictives and fats in the food you denied yourself... So you just go, "AHH!!" It's like all logic melts away as you munch and your addictive tastes are satuated after you binge.
So i mean, you could do something crazy.. Like "cleanse" your body and just eat organic so you wouldn't crave crap like that... 0r you can enjoy the delicious fatty foods, and "Pay" for it later. Hah. Life always has it's loops. So sad... =/
Anyway, this is what i think.

Enjoying foods you like in moderation is not a bad thing. But binging and "paying for it later" is very dangerous behavior. That kind of behavior is classified as "non-purging bullimia nervosa," which means that you binge, but you don't purge (i.e. throw up, use laxatives, etc) to get rid of the calories. Non-purging bullimia is not only psychologically damaging, but it's physically damaging as well. I struggle with non-purging bullimia also, but I'm working on overcoming it....so if anyone would like to talk, I know what you're going through! But there are ways of overcoming it. It takes time, and I really think it's a life-long process, but it is possible!
It's also possible for me to fly! ^.^
Ok, I used to binge, but I've not in a looong time, and im losing weight.
You're not eating enough, binge desires are because your body thinks its not getting enough food, you need to appease the binge desire before it can become developed.
Eat more, snack when you're hungry.
BOTTOM LINE: If you deprive your body too much, it will rebel
