I'd like to share with everyone something that I heard recently, from a wise and wonderful friend who walks the way she talks.  She knows what she's talking about, because she's speaking from her own experience.

Here goes:

"Can you take a few moments to write down (journal) about how you're feeling, what you were feeling when you began to spend compulsively?  A binge is an acronym for "Because I'm Not Good Enough."  I find that when ever I binge, either spending, eating, etc., that the core of my feelings is that I am not good enough.  It is childhood neediness that was never satisfied.

Sometimes, especially when I binge on gifts for others, it is because I want to please others (because I am not good enough), because I feel loss of their love (again, I am not good enough unless I buy love), because I tell myself that I can do this because of who I am (FEAR - false evidence appearing real)."

I never thought of it that way.  It's true, though, with spending money and eating food.  Very interesting stuff.
