how to not binge?

Quote  |  Reply
so lately i have been binging like crazy...and i am trying so hard not too. i binged this morning, so i am restricted even more to what i can eat the rest of the day. i am at school right now, and brought a banana for lunch. after school, i brought some dry cereal to eat before work. but i am so scared that when i get home from work (around 9ish probably) i am going to binge. i really dont want to as i have a fashion show at the end of the month and prom coming up in a few months.

please does anyone have any advice on how to avoid binging when i get home? i have tried every tactic i know of but binge regardless.

If its that bad, dont go home then!

Switch up your routine and find someplace else to spend some time for a while. Maybe find a good book at the library and chill there for a little bit. Or go bop around the mall. Maybe treat yourself to a movie.

Tomorrow you should really eat three-four balanced meals and snacks to prevent yourself from craving a binge. Restricting will always equal binging, ALWAYS. Even with anorexia.

EDIT: Ack sorry completely spaced on the fact that your getting home at 9!  What I would do is just go to bed early and get some reeeaaaallllly good sleep (but then again I almost always undersleep so...)

Sometimes if theres nothing to do I force myself to write.

DONT EAT THE CEREAL. Carbs are a trigger for binging.

Drink 16 oz of water before you eat anything at all when you get home. Eat an apple or some carrots or something that will fill you up without a lot of calories then LEAVE the kitchen and DO NOT go back. Just stay out of there until you leave for work. Take a snack with you and eat that when you come home and nothing else. Don't even go into the kitchen when you get home.

Go read or watch a movie you really like. Listen to music, do a project you've been putting off, write in a journal, go for a walk. Anything but eat.
Eat real food.

Have a decent sized breakfast, and although you're at school (college I assume, since you work too), you have to set aside some time for a lunch.  And when you get to work, take your break and eat then too.  If you eat big in the morning, and pretty much skip the whole day, you WILL BINGE tonight.  And your body will be craving more food because of the all-day fast.

To add to what leopardrayne said:

Eat real food.  Eat enough food.  Eat often.

You are on the brink of the binge-restrict cycle.  It's usually caused by excessive dieting.  You restrict too much, your body literally starts demanding food, you end up binging, and then you restrict even more to "atone" for the binge.  And then it repeats.  The longer you stay in the cycle, the harder it is to break.  Which means, the best possible thing you can do is to start eating enough RIGHT NOW.  So what if you binged this morning.  Eat normally for the rest of the day.  Eat normally tomorrow.  And the next day.  Don't try to "fix" a binge.  I've been there--worst mistake ever.
