Binge-ing as a result of lethargy?
Since school has ended, I have been doing extremely well with my eating (i.e. no binge-ing!!) and managed to stay motivated with my exercise plan. All in all, over the past 1.5 months, I've dropped 5 lbs while noticing much more defined muscle tone! However, perhaps as a result of the continuous rain, gray skies, and random thunderstorms, I've been feeling very lethargic over the past few days and I ended up binge-ing over 3000 calories each day for the past THREE days =/ (3500 on Friday, 3000 on Sat, and already 4100 today). I'm pretty sure that I've freaked myself out enough after today- my stomach hurts so much, my face is so bloated, and I feel like I'm going to throw up constantly- so I will be back on track tomorrow. But how much does mood/weather have to do with eating? And since it obviously seems correlated in my case, what tips do you have for controlling your food intake on "those" days?
And while I know this is sort of useless, are there any tips for what to do after such a horrendous binge?
Just remember how you feel right now b/c of your binge. That will stop you next time........at least it did for me after my slight binge last weekend. Start all over tomorrow. You have to forget about the past 3 days. There is a correlation between the lack of sun and depression. You were probably just bored and needed something to do...I don't know.
I often binge out of boredom, but I also comfort-eat a lot. When I had mono (and didn't know), I felt insanely lethargic and binged like crazy for two months. There's definitely a correlation.
Try to get out of the house. Do some exercise. Find things to distract yourself.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I have found if I eat in a way that is unhealthy or unbalanced I sometimes notice it in my energy levels, and I am almost certain to binge trying to feel better. For me I've found that I have to pay close attention to what I eat so that I feel great, or I end up messing up my diet. There's been research to prove that low blood sugar and low serotonin levels can trigger cravings. If I were having the issues you are describing, I'd check what I've been eating before I started binging, and make sure I am eating a well rounded, nutritious diet.
I've lost 30# this past yr on CC, so am trying to accept these low motivation days as part of my makeup.
Drink lots of water and on those days and try for the best choices if you can.
Put it behind you and go forward with a fresh start.
Drink more water or green tea, exercise when you feel like eating. Get rid of the junk in the house and replace it with healthy alternatives. Cut up veggies and fruit and put them in the frig so if you do want to snack it will be healthy. Plan your meals for the day first thing in the morning and stick to it. Log it and then you will feel bad if you have to add more.
There are a lot of good suggestions here but I'd also like to add that even something like getting a massage or a pedicure can lift your spirits and get you on to the right track again, something that doesnt have anything to do with food, exercise or the weather.
I eat when i'm bored too! (I'm an emotional eater...) It helps to find other projects to do, and get your mind off eating. Art, music and reading are good distractions for me. :3 you might want to read up on how to handle emotional eating... there are some articles on the sticky in the health and support forms i think! (:
I have been doing it too and I am so lethargic that I can barely stay awake. I feel like the blob , it just makes me sick .

Wow, finally someone else who had the same mono experience I had! I gained weight with mono, but the classic symptom is to lose weight. I felt so jipped! :)
And in reply to the OP, I, too find myself eating more when bored, lazy, procrastinating, etc. Yucky weather doesn't help, either. My advice would be to get out and do something first thing in the morning. Go for a jog or head to the gym or something. It will help you feel like you are accomplishing something, and hopefully curb the excess eating. Good luck!
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
