I binge on Oatmeal

I used to binge daily on peanut butter, eating spoonfuls by spoonfuls. But then

I somehow stopped binging on peanut butter and started on oatmeal! I eat

more than 4 cups of oatmeal everyday (not all at once). And I usually eat it

plain too. I know oatmeal is healthy, but too much of a good thing can be a bad

thing. Does anyone else binge on oatmeal? Or am I the only one O_O

Aaah, I do that too!
And sometimes I even put peanut butter in it...
I swear to god, I could live on oatmeal.

I sometimes put sugar in it, lots of it. (bad bad bad)

But I don't get how its supposed to be "filling" because of the fiber content, yet

I still eat it like its candy. (no-so-filling)

I HEART OATMEAL!!!! :)
ooooh my gosh---it was one of the first foods I began eating during the beginning stages of my anorexic recovery--
i would wake up every morning at 4:30 a.m.---measure out 1/3 c. oatmeal,..1/2 c. soy milk, 2 T. cream of wheat, 8 almonds or pecans----some pumpkin puree, frozen fruit (assorted and varied).....and eat it for breakfast all nice warm and thick--
oh gees, thinking about it is making me want it right nOW!
and they have it in the dining hall at my college every morning too! SELF-SERVE BUFFET STYLE!!! KILLLERR!!!! with alllll sorts of dried fruits, syrups,...etc. etc. etc.-----it's sooo hard to avoid but if i I don't I'll eat like----a TON!---
so--umm--yeah,....so sum it up----i LOOVE it too! :) *ha ha

No, I dont binge on oatmeal, but probably would if I could. (Oatmeal has made me binge before)

Simple solution -- make ONE serving of oatmeal each morning. Eat that, and theres no more left to binge on unless you want to eat raw oats :P

(works for me.... except oatmeal makes me binge because than i just move onto other foods....)

And 4 cups of oatmeal throughout the entire day is not considered a binge. 4 cups of oatmeal all at once might be ;)

I do make only 1 serving! Then when I'm done with the first serving, I make

anothe, and another, and another. I make oatmeal the easy way: by putting

boiled water in the bowl and wait like 5 minutes.

mmm i love oatmeal but i don't binge on it, surprisingly. i have it almost every morning! Quaker Instant Oatmeal with dried apples and cinnamon!! soo good!!!one packet is only 130 calories!! and it fills me up, just the right balance of sweetness! and cinnamon is good for the heart i hear. try it!

The easy way-5 minutes?!
I pour on cold water and microwave it for one minute.

Oatmeal=love :)

I binge on it sometimes too. My thing is I LOVE the texture, espeacially when it has butter and peanutbutter mixed in.

What I do is I have 3/4 cups of it every morning for b-fast, and then if I want it for dinner I'll have it then too.

That usually takes care of my oatmeal craving.

But yea, sometimes I wish calories didn't exist so I could sit down and eat a whole tub of it :)

Well normally, you need to cook the oatmeal.  But instead I just use already-

boiled water and pour it into my bowl. I just think it's the easy way :) I don't

like using the microwave that much.

I love oatmeal, but can't eat it because I don't want to binge.

I honestly don't get why everyone who diets loves oatmeal. 1/3 cup is 130 calories, and that's nothing. For me at least. And it never makes me full unless I have a HUUGE bowl of it with alot of sugar.

A big apple fills me up more than a serving or 2 of oatmeal does.

Yeah I don't get how 1/3 cup is filling. I get so hungry afterwards.

Uhh.. then try eating something else? I love oatmeal as well and could eat it for every meal of the day! I eat the quaker oats instant variety pack (50% less sugar) almost every day - it's a "must have" in the pantry.

I don't love oatmeal...in fact, I don't really care for it much.

if i have oatmeal for dinner i have two bowls, about 200 cals each usually. i can't imagine eating MORE than that, i think i'd pop!

Of all binge foods, that's not too bad! I sometimes binge on grapes, and eat the whole bag, sometimes two or three pounds of then. I feel a lot less bad about myself after a grape binge, than after a binge on chocolate or ice cream. I imagine oatmeal is not too different-- you'd have to eat a bathtub full to get the same amount of calories as a few candy bars.

I think you should focus on dealing with your bingeing problem, instead of worrying about this. If I remember, you used to binge on sugary cereal? Oatmeal at least is good for you, and the calories don't add up as fast.

Oatmeal is actually the food I eat after I binge when I get hungry again. It's soft and comforting, and a "safe" food, for me. I like it with apple sauce.

You're definitely not alone! I love steel cut oats! I could eat them all day... but I try to just have them in the morning and then for dessert. :)

Sorry to be a complete idiot but...is oatmeal the same thing as porridge? Or is it different?

me too!!! in fact, im on my second bowl right now! its soo good with cinnamon and splenda!

I used to eat up to about a cup of raw oats every once in a while when I had carb cravings at night and was too lazy to cook haha.  I feel that oatmeal fills me up, though (cooked) - I could totally have a cup made with 2 cups of water for a meal and be satisfied.  I think it's the warm food feeling that makes me full though - I notice that an ear of steamed corn will more easily satisfy me than eating a salad with an equal amount of calories.

I used to binge all the time on oatmeal too. I would put chocolate chips in it and let it melt or peanut butter or hot chocolate powder or frozen blueberries, soymilk, honey, cinnamon, different combinations of all of the above. So delicious. I love, love, love oatmeal. I usually eat All Bran now though, because the same amount of calories of All Bran has 5 times as much fiber as oatmeal. And while my All Bran cereal is cold, it is actually harder for me to binge on it than oatmeal, because my mouth gets tired of chewing all the chewy cereal.
