If I binge one more time I swear...!

Quote  |  Reply

Man, ever since I got home from my dads on Sunday I've basically binged. Today is the first day since Sunday I didn't binge but it's only 4:00 so I don't know...

I need to stop this! I have until August to reach my goal and at this rate I'll go back to school 20 pounds heavier! I need help!

Sunday I was doing great until I got home then I binged like a maniac. Then Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I did it again. Friday I was doing excellent, I thought it'd be my changing day until 11:00 at night my mom and our neighbor came over and they were starving! They ordered Chinese food!!!!! There went my perfect day...

Saturday (yesterday) I did "okay" except for the eating like, almost a whole bag of chips by myself and then coming home and eating four cookies. I mean, wtf? What's wrong with me?

Today I had a Special K Snack Bar (90 calories), French Toast (homemade, I had 2.5 slices which was 180 a piece + syrup so it came to around 450), and a trail mix bar (120), then I had a homemade, no sugar added milkshake (200). Plus I had about two glasses of 2% milk (260).

So for today, I didn't do bad, but I'm really scared of the next 5 or 6 hours I'm awake. I still have 300 calories until my target, but still... I don't know.

Any advice/tips?

You may be binging because your diet isn't very balanced. From what you've listed, it sounds like it was loaded with carbs and sugar, and you're drinking a lot of your calories, as well. Maybe you should revamp to include more fruits and veggies and lean proteins. With what you've eaten, I would be starving too and would end up binging!

For today at least, I find that when I'm hungry, an apple (60) with peanut butter (190) is a very healthy snack that keeps me full for a long time. But it'd probably really help you if you changed around your diet so that you're getting the most out of your calories.

I agree with minerva. Cut the french toast and have an egg white omelet with lots of chopped veggies in it instead, and maybe even some ham or something in it-- for about 200 calories rather than 450. Don't drink calories until you get your binging under control...try water, diet soda, and tea (homemade or unsweetened/diet!) Your day could look something more like--

Omelet mentioned above-- 200
Banana--100

Cereal with fiber/protein + milk--300
1 cup blueberries--80

Special K Bar--90

Dinner could be something like red beans and rice, chicken and steamed broccoli, or a turkey sandwich /w pickles or another veggie on the side. Easy to make, and any of those would leave you with extra calories for snacks throughout the day/evening! Notice how every meal has a mix of protein, carbs, fruit or veg, etc.

I also agree with the above two posters. Try to get 40% of your calories from Carbs, 30% from protein and 30% fat.

You can click on the analysis tab to see how your are progressing through the day and make choices on future meals or snacks depending on how you are doing.

I used to eat almost all carbs and sugars, once i balanced out my diet to the percentages i listed above, the weight really started coming off.

I think binge eating has more to do with emotions than nutrition.  It took me years to overcome my binge eating, but I am finally at a place where I just don't feel like doing it anymore.  I know how miserable it is to not trust yourself, but try to think about the harm you are doing to your health by bingeing and less about what it means in terms of weight and appearance.  Try yoga to create more mind-body awareness, and then you will want to treat yourself better.  That's what worked for me - although it took time.  Good luck.

Oh - and eat at regular meal times! Not weird portions of food all throughout the day.

All good replies.  One more:  if you really feel like sitting down and snacking, forget the chips and cookies and fill a bowl with baby carrots, celery, broccoli florets, cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, and have a big glass of water next to you.  The crunch of all those foods is very satistying and when you are done you feel very full.  Also, when you are done, you can say - wow I just put a whole lot of good stuff into my body.  I was starving in the grocery store today so I picked up a 16 oz container of strawberries.  I ate them as I shopped.  I felt full after about half of the container and I felt good too.  Now if I go over my calorie limit today (which I probably will), at least I went over with something healthy.

Yeah. Just to let you all know I don't eat french toast and chips daily. xD

I usually do not eat meat either that includes eggs. I also usually just drink flavored water and green tea, however I ran out and my mom buys my food. =] Hahaha.

Also, about eating at regular times, the day I posted this I was at the beach and I didn't know what time it was and all we had was junk (besides the grapes.) My mom knows that I don't eat chips on a regular basis and if I do eat chips they are usually organic blue corn tortilla chips but she just so happened to buy greasy, salty ruffle ones and I hate those but it was all we had and I was really hungry. D:

About my other binges though, I do eat at regular times, but at the end of the day I just pig out. At the worst time of day too! At like, 9:00 I'll start shoving gross food in my mouth, and I don't know why.

I am getting it under control and tomorrow I get to start swimming.

Thanks for all your helpful replies, tips and advice. =]

I am thinking about a lot of different alternatives to the sugary crap we have in my house, because my brother (he's 10) has really good metabolism (I'm very jealous), so we have a bunch of snack foods that someone his age would like and apparently I do too.

I have a little plan layed out for myself, I hope it works!

But again, thanks everyone, you all gave me really good ideas. =]

Yup, I have the EXACT same problem as you.  Here are two things that I've come up with.  First, stop doing it!  I know how hard it is once you're in the cycle, but I think as of yesterday I broke it—I don't feel much better now but I'm sure I will feel more energized later.  Second, you might want to kind of let yourself off the hook for this one.  If you live in the U.S., it's graduation season, and that means (at least for me) going to a hundred parties and graduation ceremonies.  When things settle back down, you'll probably get in the loop again.  But for now, just try to not do it!  Remember that it doesn't satisfy you, and it isn't worth the guilt later.

Good luck!

I think you have the same issue I do. I eat when I have nothing else to do. If I'm busy doing something outside or with friends, I don't think about food. But, when I'm either in front of the computer or watching TV. I'm hungry. I notice you seem to follow the same trend.  So, I guess the answer for me is to stay busy.  And turn off the TV!
