Hi! I'm a 24 year old in recovery from 9 yrs of bulimia, and I've been getting better...binging and purging a few times a week down from everyday. (soon it will be less!)
I've discovered my problem time comes around the hours of 5-6, when I come home from work but my boyfriend is not home yet (I will not binge with him around). I eat breakfast and lunch, am hungry for a snack before dinner, but since I am home alone I tend to go crazy and eat TONS of whatever I am having for a snack... ususually carrots and hummous, but I will eat 8 carrots and tons of hummous and then sometimes move on to other things before stopping myself and purging.
Does anyone have any advice for me to help me stop doing this? It's really ruining my progress and making me feel like s**t for the rest of the evening. I try to distract myself but always end up in the kitchen ;-(
Are you in counseling? It can be hard to make that move, but it's really important to your recovery. We all need professional help at one time or another. Good luck -- you've already come a long way! Keep up the good work and try not to focus on relapses.
Wow, reading your thread was like reading my own history. I am only 26, but I was bulimic for about 10 years. I would say that the posts made already are totally in line with how I worked to recover (I still think I am recovering). Definitely seek counseling. I went to individual counseling and group counseling. The group therapy was so much more helpful than I ever would have thought. Also, do eat your dinner before your boyfriend gets home. Or, go for a walk until the time he gets home. Trust me, I know its hard. Its almost uncanny how and why we do these things, but force yourself to go for a walk. Don't go to the kitchen when you get home from work... just put on some better shoes and clothes and head out the door. Or, take a bath (sorry, I am coming up with ideas as I type). I have eliminated the purging, but not completely the overeating (I wouldn't call it a binge), so I know how you feel. Anyway, know what sets you off. If its being home alone with access to the kitchen, then don't be home alone with access to the kitchen. Go do something else until your man comes home. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
