I just binged without even realising it
so, I slipped up today (Been lsipping up a LOT lately) and I ended up binging on what LOOKS like a relatively small amount of food
2 slices combination pizza
1 tbs homemade buttercream frosting
1/2 red velvet cupcake
all of this equals to about 932 calories (possubly more). so, ontop of my calories I took in BEFORE this, I'm WAY over calories when all day I've eaten relatively well.
It's only 1:00 pm over here and I've already succeeded my caloric intake goal. So, do I simply stop eating for the rest of the day and ATTEMPT to work off the binge?
Don't STOP eating, but don't eat unless you're hungry.
You can workout, but don't try to 'work off the binge' as that leads into a cycle of "well, I can eat this if I work it off." which isn't really all that healthy.
Eat moderately, drink lots of water, work out and then sleep enough. One bad day won't be the end of you!
The thing is, right now all I want to do is sleep though. I feel exhausted and ill (no doubt because both the pizza and cupcake/frosting all contain some form of milk, and the pizza had meat, both of which I do/can not eat). Would it be a really big no-no if I lie down? Or do I have to work off the calories right this minute before anything bad happens?
Mmmm red velvet cake...
You can forgive yourself for one bad day (red velvet cake is *almost* worth it). Don't stop eating, just make sure you eat nutritious things. Try again tomorrow. Red velvet cake was my slip-up a week ago and it didn't even impact my weekly figure at all, in the end.
As long as your calories in and out average out well over time you'll be fine. No need to do anything right this minute, one day is not a huge deal. Don't work out if you feel like you might vomit, that's for sure! Drink water, take a nap, and then work out if you feel up to it.
Eat as you're actually hungry for the rest of the day and try to make it healthy stuff. 932 calories still leaves you with another 568 if you're trying to lose weight and you can just make today a maintenance day if you're hungry.
Do you think that this is a reaction to something emotional or to not eating enough in the last few days or did you just not plan your day well? If you can pinpoint the why, it might help you to do better in the future.
Hey, don’t stress it takes 3500 EXTRA calories to gain a lbs, so unless you ate 3500 EXTRA calories on top of your maintenance then you will NOT gain ANY weight.
You do not have to work off the extra calories because you did not eat enough to gain weight. Your body will just burn them all off without you having to make an extra effort by working out of eating less.

what exactly "bad" happens from eating? or from lying down?
I did the same thing - didn't have dinner ready so I splurged on Wendy's #7 with a Sprite instead to TEA. I always get TEA. Then my hubby came home with a jr. bacon cheeseburger and I ate that too. Lots of Calories for dinner. So I totally understand. It took me about 1 hr. to burn off only 400 calories. I felt so sick after eating this meal and I know my body doesn't really want it but it's convenient!
Agh. Why do so many people think you have to burn off every extra calorie you have to avoid gaining weight? Of course it helps if you are trying to lose weight but if you are maintaining , 3500 extra calories at once, or an extra 500 calories for a week is when you need to burn the extra calories off, if you have like 500 calories or even 1000 extra calories on ONE DAY then you technically do not need to go on the treadmill and burn every single calorie off! When I ate a huge home cooked dinner with a friend Sunday night, I probably went over by 500 - 1000 but I stay within maintenance 6 days of the week so I don’t feel like I should punish my body when I don’t feel like having to go out of my way to burn the calories off. I don’t feel bad about it and it is sad that others in my position do feel they have burn off every last calorie, when they naturally burn them off just by living. ( providing it is a once a week thing!)

I think that's very wise. And I can certainly understand the panic that comes with eating more in a day then you're planning. Direwolf, I saw your most recent journal entry and I want to say that I'm so sorry that you've been feeling so horrible. :( I really, really hope that things turn around for you soon...
Let's all take this moment to contemplate that we need to plan our meals. I know this is really difficult but if I don't take the time the night before to clean vegatables and fruit, I will slip and grab chips or worse. I myself suffer from irritable bowel, so I really need to plan meals to be filling and not too raw or I will be miserable all night. Especially helps to make a huge bowl of salad at night, so that I can grab a handful or two for meals. Makes it more filling than just meat and vegatables.
Remember the old stand by, 1/2 of the plate should be vegatable and/or fruit, 1/4 should be meat/protien and the last 1/4 - grains. And when in doubt grab some water and wait 10 minutes. If you're still hungry- grab raw vegatables. If you're still hungry 10 minutes after that, fruit. If you're not full after that, try protien. I try to keep hard boilded eggs handy. Good luck!
How exactly is this a 'binge'?
You made a few high-calorie food choices. There's nothing wrong with that, you just have to move on and make better choices tomorrow.
And for the rest of the day you can always try lower calorie foods... vegetables/salad, drink lots of water etcetc.

I totally agree with this statement. This hardly qualifies as a "binge". However , you did make some high-cal choices, so simply what your calories for the rest of the say. You can have low-cal soups and salads. You'll be fine. I hope you feel better.
