Hi everyone.
I'm a very healthy eater from day to day. VERY healthy. And I'm quite proud of my diet and my will power. I eat whole grains, lean meats, fruits and vegetables and low fat dairy products. I also eat portions of nuts and drink lots of water.
But I have a problem. I'm in university, and tend to go out to the bars on the weekends every now and then. Now, I can deal with a night of drinking, because I can control how much I drink and I dont drink really hefty sugary drinks. My problem is my loss of will power to junk food when I drink. I eat so much... SO MUCH chocolate when I'm drunk! So much that sometimes I feel ill the next day, but of course, I get back on track and dont drop my calories the next day because I know it's unhealthy recoil.
After this rant, I propose creating this group to support and track / log how many days myself and any others interested in joining can go binge free. I still dont mind having small portions of chocolate throughout the day because they might be just 5g portions. I just want to be able to motivate myself to stay on track and not destroy my healthy diet every weekend.
So, I'm going to start out. Since I went all out last night, today is...
Days without bingeing: 1 (I know the whole day hasnt gone by, but I know I'll control it today haha)
Thanks!
The temptation is ALWAYS there! The same stressors. Every day now I'm trying to keep my goals in mind...my whole life is changing. Most of these goals are fear-filled...when I look back, most of my life has been self-defeating behavior!
Can't live like that anymore!
dbook, maybe it was smart for the bf to split early if things were bad. don't think the worst! use this time to pull yourself up and focus on you! stay with the changes you're making. bingeing in the early stages is really part of the process. eventually those binges become less frequent and there's less food involved!
last night I was tired and I knew I should go to bed but it wasn't working out that way. I had a cookie and THAT took me over my max. But, it didn't lead to another cookie. so, I'm going to count myself still in.
Yesterday was day 3 without a binge! WOW! :)
But, fiance is going to be gone for a looong time this evening, and I'm worried I'm going to go grocery shopping and binge on cookies and chocolate... why does eating 5000 calories of crap sound so good?? ![]()
so, tonight, think about all you know about THOSE foods...they don't taste so great, honestly, when you've been off them for a while.
why not try avoiding grocery stores when you are vulnerable. head over to a clothing store and look at styles you'll by once you have trimmed out because that IS where you are headed!
Days without binging: 2
snoe, don't beat yourself up! there is a learning curve even to this. if you stay with it, you will see that your behavior modifies over time.
some suggestions: I make a snack plate for myself in the morning: a few assortment of nuts and dried fruit and a few dark chocolate chips. when I want to snack, I choose from that or grab a piece of fruit/veggie...like a salad or even a sweet potato half.
eat slowly and journal...changing behavior takes some work.
So, I used to overeat every 3rd day!!! that is what was holding me back from weight loss. This is my first week w/o that and I lost my 1.5#!!! Thank you all. This is the most helpful post out there!
Yay, sharonclaire, and yay kae1106! Great job! You are an awesome inspiration :)
I almost went into bingeing mode last night...definitely ate more than I wanted to, but it was no way a full-out binge (maybe 400 cals...which sucks, but oh well). So, I'm still going to count myself as days without bingeing: 4!
Lost 1 pound this week...I'm gonna need some serious help this weekend though.
A friend, a fellow bread baker, just brought us a right outta the oven loaf of bread. My son had some and I had a taste. But, it's white and I'm not tempted by anything that's going to suck me in and pull me under. Not right now anyway because I am finishing up day 7!!!
I have to watch that I don't get too tired tonight...that could do me in w/that loaf! lol
lets make it a week sharonclaire! and way to not give in kae1106 (we know you wont) ;)
The only way I am making it through is because of this post! how cool we are all here.
kae, liora, alex, snoe, dbook and anyone else I missed!...how is everyone doing? post and be heard, friends!!! As a single mom, I try to stay pretty close to home for my son. So, I'm going to tune in regularly over the weekend if anyone needs some support!
Take care all! This post is the best!
I had 3 cookies today, but it was within my calorie goals and I knew that going in. I didn't say I'm not gonna eat these, I said I will eat these but only because I can because I jogged today and it will still keep me under 1400 because I ate well today. This is okay. So days without bingeing: 1 and I'm proud of it.
binging is an affect of semi starvation. when you deprive your body of foods it needs like carbs during the day, by diner time your body is in hypoglycemia stage and that will cause you to eat every thing in sight (mostly sweets) if you allow your self to have these foods during the day it could reduce your chances of bingeing. try eating foods from all food groups at every meal and you will find that in time your bingeing may decrease (we all still need our girls nights of pizza, ice cream and sodas) these foods are good in moderation, if you forbid your self from them you are setting your self up for failure. BUT, with this said i am NO expert and you should always consult your doctor if you think you have an eating disorder and he/she will be able to assist you with a team of people who can help you. you are not alone, nor are you a bad person. with every attempt you make you are bringing yourself closer to success, so if you fail, try again because the next try could be you last.
Nice post Amanda. I tend to binge on sweets, so I allow myself a square of dark chocolate every day.
How's everyone doing? Like Sharonclaire said, I'm online most of the time. Haha, because I'm homeschooled and have no social life, so if you need support or help just email me and I'll probably email you right back.
Days without binging: 3
thanks, i have been on this new endevour to a healthier lifestyle. its hard though bc i am a single mom going to school and doing quite a bit of voluenteer work too so finding time to go to the gym has been difficult.
i am studying eating disorders and have learned ALOT about bingeing, and found that sitting at the computer every night doing home work caused me to over eat tones of calouries of sweets and the information about has really been useful to me, i find that by having a healty diet during the day (from all the food groups) help me at night.
useful guide to follow is www.healthcanada.gc.ca/foodguide
educating your-self on eating disorder, yo-yo dieting and healthy living is only a benifit to you.
Hi all. I was on day ten, but I fell off the wagon today. However, it wasn't as bad as in the past, so I'm making progress, I think.
Tomorrow is a new day...
Well,
On the weekend I want to drink. And I think I deserve it after a hard hard week of working. Everything in moderation. I like to drink good dark beer. Tonight when I went out drinking I started with light beer so that I wouldnt drink dark beer after beer after beer. Instead of binging on crap food I got mussels and clams instead. They added barely any calories onto my days meals. Still went over in cals of course (usually at 1200 and had about 1800) because of the drinking but I feel better about myself for not running home and eating a quesadilla or pizza or some other such thing because I opted for eating healthier food right away. On a normal drinking night I end up well over 2000 calories and I beat myself up for it. Tonight is the first night I didn't do that. Go me! I also did some cardio today (not as much as normal but every little bit counts) so that bought me some extras. Such a process this lifestyle.
