Binging? What ACTUALLY helps?!?
so none of the "well just eat more during the day", because that does not help for me! i end up eating more during the day, then on top of that binge the same amount at night, probably going way over my cals (but i dont count them). So any things that actualy work for you?

Honestly, I know exactly what you mean.
Today I had eaten all my calories at 6 pm. My wise choice, LEFT THE HOUSE, went to the library and then to the gym. Just came home, showered and about to go to bed.
So really, just remove yourself from the kitchen, go somewhere else. go for a walk. As well, not having the food around help!
Try this...
Disarm your cravings with the 5 D's. Delay at least 10 minutes before you eat so that your action is conscious, not impulsive. Distract yourself by engaging in an activity that requires concentration. Distance yourself from the food. Determine how important it really is for you to eat the craved food and how much you really want it. Decide what amount is reasonable and appropriate, eat it slowly and enjoy!
good luck !
okay thankssss

Hi. this my solution. I don't count calories, I count points, Weight Watchers way. I have a certain amount of points I HAVE to eat in a day. Means I have to eat every 2-3 hours. Am NEVER hungry,so sometimes I forget to eat. This is 2009 W.W. plan where the aim is to keep you satiated or satisfied. Most food points are already worked out for you so following plan is easy. Lots of 0 point foods to fill up on. Check it out. Joined 3 weeks ago and have lost 3.5 kg, no sweat.
how many calories are you eating ??? how many calories do you aim to eat in a day?
I second what post #2 said - go somewhere, walk, gym, mall, just out! Something that will distract you. If you no longer feel hungry, it wasn't hunger in the first place. Easy way to know :)
A lot of times, I will try to plan what I'm going to do once I get home while I'm still driving. i.e., first, do laundry, then check email, then put away clothes, write that paper, etc. Plan distractions immediately so you'll e on a mission right away. That way, if you feel hungry, you'll know you really are.
Another thing, if you feel ingey, and there's no way to distract yourself (usually not the case, we're just so caught up in the feeling that we can't think straight) make a deal with yourself to cook all of the next day's food. It will give you that food distraction you're looking for without actually eating it. Make it healthy, pack it all away, and done. Works for me sometimes. We're all in this together. Good luck!
What might help is identifying WHY you binged. In my own recent stumblings I went looking for some online help beyond CC and found this article, which really helped me and would generally provide advice for anyone struggling with binge and emotional eating: After the Binge - By Annette Colby, PhD, RD, LD
Common causes are not eating enough for your age, height, weight, activity and gender, being drastically underweight, lacking a nutrient or food group in one's diet, emotional triggers, eating too little during the daytime... but I think prempting and figuring out the actual causes of your binges and then working on that - whether it means eating more, planning, finding ways to vent emotion beyond food - might do you good.

great advice! You may also want to find out if there are any emotions that are helping trigger you. I usually am tempted to binge when I'm having a tough day or just feeling blah in general. Goodluck.
If you absolutely must eat, try something filling. Last night I got home, my husband didn't have dinner ready yet. I was absolutely starving. I heated up an entire can of collard greens, added a little apple cider vinegar and drank a large glass of water with it. It totaled about 70 calories, 8 grams of fiber and 9 grams of protein. Boy was I full! I then only ate a small amount of dinner, because my tummy was so full. I know this is a far cry from a bag of chips or something sweet, but It works for me when I feel the need to binge. I always keep things like this in the pantry, or when the season is right, butternut squash, sprinkled with a little splenda brown sugar and nuked in the microwave. Yummy and sweet!
I just read your bio, it said you were 15, 5'6" and between 112-118 lbs. Please ask your self honestly, are you binging or are you eating because your body is craving the food and nutrients you need. When I was 19, I weighed about 117 and was a size two, almost, I'm only 1 inch taller then you. You could still be growing, my son is 11 and sometimes it seems that he eats whole extra meals through out the day, but he's the right weight, every few weeks he's an inch taller :-) If your still growing you need enough nutrients to keep your body healthy.
I think the biggest hurdle for me when trying to stop binging was that it was just a habit for me. Once the day winded down, I would relax in my room or watch shows on my computer, and it became habitual enough to binge during that time that I would actually convinced and believed deeply that I couldn't do without the binge. I know I know I know that it's soo much easier said than done, but I've been where you were at, but I'll say it anyways.. it's a matter of self-control.. a mind game, and it's a battle that you can win. The hardest part for me was breaking the habit.
