binging= no period?

Quote  |  Reply

I suffered anorexia, recovered, but now am having a problem binging. However, I lost my period even before I became anorexic due to severe diet changes, and still do not have it back. I am above the weight I was when I quit getting it. I have been to numerous doctors numerous times and each just say it will come back eventually. I am getting really worried. July 2009 will be two years with only one period during that time. I would like to avoid birth control if at all possible.

Last week I had eaten so much without drinking enough water and I acctually ended up constipated and a few other non serious things wrong with my digestion.

My question is, could the binging just be putting too much pressure on my body? Or is it the constipation thing ( I am no longer constipated)?

p.s. : My "binges" are probably around the 500-800 range.

Sorry if the post was too vivid, but I need to know what to do.

I was wondering the exact same thing. I'm in a very similar situation, except I never really got underweight, and was not eating enough calories by accident (usually under 1,000 per day). Once a week, I would binge though (go out to dinner, appetizers, main, dessert, plus like a lot of sweet stuff all day). The last time I ever got my period (September 2007) was actually on a "free day" or binge day. Then I started to work out and it never came back. I had also been on and off birth control.

But so far, my doctors think it will come back eventually. They think the connection was just lost I guess. I want to avoid birth control at all costs too, because I've had horrible experiences each and every time.

But I'm also wondering if the weekly binges could contribute to LOSING my period, mainly because I was doing a binge/starve cycle. I've heard of people's periods getting messed up because of blood sugar spikes and stuff (like insulin resistance). What if these binges have made our bodies *think* we have insulin resistance, and in turn, stop our periods even though we eat a normal or more than normal amount? I really don't know anymore. I need help too, haha.

Someone on here said she got her period back by trying herbal cycle 1 and cycle 2 pills from Whole Foods. The company is Herbs Etc. She said the same thing...lost weight and lost her period and no matter what she did, couldn't get it back on her own until she tried these. They're specifically for fertility reasons and people coming off the pill trying to regulate their cycles again. hmm...
