i've recently started birth control (about 3 mos. ago) and i feel like it is inhibiting my weight loss. i have been cutting calories and working out but still feel bloated all of the time.
i'm used to being about 115 pounds, i gained last year (was depressed) and in january was about 130, i feel like i'm 135ish now and am really upset about this'
i'm hovering between 1300-1600 calories a day, i'm working out (cardio) 45 min. 4x per week, weight training 2x a week, bellydance class on thursdays and yoga on fridays
i feel like i am lacking results

anyone have any suggestions?

That can completely depend on the kind of pill you are on.  I went on Orth Tricyclene and gained 20lbs then as soon as I changed to a lower dosage pill I dropped all that weight off right away.  Being on Depo can also greatly increase your weight.  If you think you are gaining to much weight talk to your doctor about switching to a lower dosage of estrogen or progestren.

You should try my method.  It  involved sending my husband to the doctor for a little snip.  No weight gain associated with it at all.
Heh.  I agree with mominpa.  ;-)  If you're ready for the comittment, that is.  My bf was wonderful enough to commit to the lifestyle we have chosen together, and get the snip.  I haven't lost weight after being off the pill, but my other problems have been much better.  (The pill made me depressed a lot and made it very difficult for me to sleep.)

edited: Of course, you can also try talking to your obgyn about a different pill.  Each one is made with a slightly different combination of hormones, which can make a BIG difference in the side effects.
i'm actually already on a low dose pill :/

and my bf and i have been together 6 mos--- i'm 20 and hes 28, being that neither of us have kids, i'm not about to ask him to get the big V
but i appreciate and thank you for the comments anyway :)
Which pill are you on?  I personally think it is psychological.  I have been on 3 or 4 different pills and none of them have affected me.
dandelionchika, if your bc is really the reason behind your weight gain, then maybe a low-dose pill is simply wrong for your hormone levels.

Many doctors choose to prescribe bc without ever doing blood tests to determine what your hormone levels are at. Every woman's body is different, and a pill that works well for one woman might not work for another. Perhaps you need something higher in estrogen than what you're on. See your doctor and have a blood test to be sure.

P.S. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's absolutely normal for a young woman to experience a metabolic slowdown around the age of 20. A weight gain of that much is certainly noteworthy, but you might wish to reasses the health of your previous weight of 115 in relation to your height.  If your BMI is classified as overweight and your body is continuously resistant to weight loss, you need to talk to your doctor.
i take the seaonal pill (the one thats only lets you get your period 4 times a year) and it's awesome!...I've read that birth control pills that are out there today dont cause people to gain weight anymore...back in the 70's they had so many hormones that people did truly gain weight....i agree with lorilie.....i also think it's psychological...my weight gain was cause from not being on the pill (pregnancy) gained 70 pounds! but my daughter is 12 months old now and I've been on the pill for about 11 months and i have lost 42 pounds.
Gaining weight from using the Birth control pill depends on each person's make up.  Nobody's metabolism is the same so when you take a pill like the pill where weight gain is a known side effect, you just might be one of those ppl.
Sometimes your body changes and you gain weight,  how tall are you?  Maybe you were underweight at 115lbs?
I have been on depo, ovcon, ortho trycycline low, yasmin, and im getting ready to switch to yas.  I didn't experience weight gain with any of them, but did have other side effects from each:

depo: actually decreased my appetite, but I had a very constant, very heavy period for a straight 5 months.  And I just got the first shot!

ovcon: to reduce side effects from depo.  It totally dried my out.  Sex was very painful.

Ortho trycycline low:  Spotted weekly

yasmin: I've had many yeast infections with this one, but I'm not sure if yasmin really caused them, but my doctor said certain birth controls can cause infections in certain people??? Who knows!

Last week, she switched me to yas, so we will see what happens with this one!
I've been on lots of pills too...different syptoms with each but I always switched because of spotting in the middle of my cycle. I am now on Ovcon-35 (now called Femcon) and I STILL have spotting. My doc suggested the Nuva-ring, for a more localized effect, but it kinda creeps me out, and I have read that some people have to keep pushing it back up. Scary.

I DO think that Ovcon has contributed to my weight gain over the last 1.5 years. But I also believe it could be my age (turning 29),that I quit smoking, and that I now have a desk job and  the fact that I hang out with high school and college kids all the time (work).

What I know for sure is that I am now watching myself very carefully! Hoping for 10 pounds by July. Weeeeeee!
