Birth control

Quote  |  Reply
So I want to start taking birth control pills but I don't know how they're going to affect my weight. Just a couple months ago i was holding steadily at 134 and somehow I just let myself go and now I am at 143 and trying to go back down but my bingeing is definetley sabatoging my efforts. I've heard that taking the pill makes people gain weight. I just dont want it to make me gain like ten more pounds and then be totally unmotivated :( Does anyone know anything about this?

the only thing i can tell ya is that it affects ppl in diff ways. i gained none, one of my friends gained 10. all i know is that the benefits waaaaaaaaaaaaay outweigh the costs for me, even if i had gained 10 pounds. i never want to go off it! lol, seriously i recommend it to anyone. and im not even sexually active ( started out taking it for acne reasons). seriously its one of the nicest luxuries in my life.

anyways, hope youre satisfied with whatever choice you make!

I for one am never going on the pill again. It made me gain 15-20 lbs and I was all bloated, retaining all this water, and consequently I had an emotional breakdown. Seriously, in 10 days I had gained 20 lbs.
You won't know if it will affect you unless you try it, some have less side effects than others. The last one I took was Nuvaring, my bf read that people had less side effects with it...I can't say if BC made me gain any weight, since I wasn't watching what I ate.
I am on microgynon and didn't gain because I was careful and to be honest because I felt no different.

Ive taken 3 or so different types and Ive had no side effects whatsoever

It just depends on you and the brand.

Yeah, me too. I had no side effects either. I tend to not buy into that whole increasing your appetite thing but who knows? Everybody is different.

I've been on several pills and every time i change i get bloated and uncomfortable for the first month then after that i go back to normal.  I usually get the worst side-effects when it comes to pills so i was expecting the worst.  My boobs did get  bigger.  I went from a 32B to a 34C in two months.  I didn't complain though :) I'm using yasmin right now and i think its the best one so far.

I love being on the pill because it does help with your acne and after you've been on it for a while you can skip you period (talk to your doctor first of course!!)  I haven't had my period since April!!! That helps with my diet because i know what makes me bloated without worrying that it might be because of my period.

My doctor says that no birth control makes you put on weight, but that women put on around 4lb a year anyway...don't know how much I trust that though.
Was it a male doctor who said that? Because men have no idea when it comes to things like BC.
I am not taking bc at the moment but have tried a few over the years with really no effect on my weight.  It's always best to go with the one that has the least amount of hormones you can possibly take.  The last thing I used was the nuvaring which is a flexible, clear ring that you insert into your vagina and leave there for 3 weeks.  It stays in place by itself and cannot be felt whatsoever.  During the fourth week you pull it out and have a period which for me lasted only 2 or 3 days tops!  At the end of the fourth week you put in a brand new ring.

I have been taking the pill for a year now (I'm not sexually active, i just had lots of problems with my period) and I love it. Side-effects: just bigger boobs for me! I was a 32A and because a 34B. I'm satisfied with that:)

I guess it depends on the person. A friend of mine gained 5 kilos in a month.

I took the pill for about 3 years and those were the years I lost the most weight. I took it mainly because I had a hormone imbalance, and I had been overweight my whole life, when I began taking the pill (Ortho-Trycyclen) I lost about 35 lbs, with my new eating habits and exercising daily. The pill it self did not make me lose weight, but since my hormones were balancing i guess i was able to function normally and not gain weight.

I have been off the pill for about 3 months now, and I felt like it was impossible for me to lose weight. I will begin this month hoefully if i get my period.

It depends on the people, trust me, there are plenty of slim women, that take the pill, it does not affect them at all.
