Birth Control!

Quote  |  Reply
Okay so I have decided that I hate birth control. I am getting married in August so I started birth control and I have gained 7lbs!!!! I just can't control my appetite. I want to eat everything in sight! I was reading that my body should accept the changes in about 4 months. Okay I can't gain weight for 4 months. I won't be able to fit in my dress! This is soooo frustrating! Any suggestions?

The weight gain is why i didnt get back on the pill after i had my DD. I went with the Mirena IUD Surposably no weight gain with it. I havent gained any from it I have been able to lose my pregnancy weight! The only really bad thing about it Is I bleed heavily for 7 weeks straight after i had it put in. That SOOOO sucked. But now very very light periods.
purrfectprincess - good minds thinnk alike eh!

Me too!!  That is I went with the Mirena IUD - no weight gain either and I don't have to remember to take anythng.

I spotted for a couple of weeks after insertion (which I might add was not painful contrary to what is on the internet!) but now its all bliss and no weight gain.
interestingly, i just went off the pill to give my body a break and i have zero appetite and feel really sick.

I just received the depo shot for the 3rd time this year and it says that you will have a increased appetite...I just said I will eat healthier foods instead of mashed potatoes...just try to eat foods with more fiber so you will stay fuller longer

With just a hint of self control and 2 minutes a day, you don't have to spend any money or load up your body (causing higher blood pressure and clots) and our streams and rivers with hormones that, according to environmentalists, are causing a dramatic decrease in male fish. My wife and I practice natural family planning, and it works - plenty of sex - no babies. It is the natural cycle of a woman, scientifically proven to work as well as the pill and better than condoms. Before you say nay, look at the science, study the plan. You'll understand the female body better than anyone around you and you'll never waste money or harm yourself or the environment again (at least not for this reason!).

It ABSOLUTELY works, but it does require the two points above, just smidge of self control (which we all need, if we are being reasonable and not reactionary), as well as 2 minutes a day, first thing in the morning, before you even fully wake up or move out of bed.

Have a good night!

The Paragard IUD has been wonderful--since it has no hormones, lost 7 pounds almost immediately after I went off the pill (Mircette) and got the IUD.  It hurt like hell when they inserted it (which took about a minute), and my periods have been heavier, but I'm SO happy to be free of artificial hormones.

I'm getting the Paraguard IUD in a few weeks.

I've been on both the pill and depo shots and I just don't care for either.  The pill I hate having to remember to take it every day at around the same time and certain antibiotics negate it's effects (somehow this is not common knowledge).  The shot may have caused me weight gain (so could the lack of workouts), I loved not having a period, but I know that's not natural.

Family planning works well for some, but is not advisable for many others.  Taking your temperature daily to plot out your cycle is fine, except for the occasional month when you might produce 2 eggs.  You also need to have a back up method for those times when fertitility is at it's highest.  Additionally, sperm can be viable for up to 5 days so you have to make sure those times don't cross with the fertile times.  Using the withdrawal method as a back up isn't so smart because of preseminal fluid.

I also have to vote for the Mirena IUD, not only do you not gain weight but if you're like me, you'll end up with hardly any period (just one day of spotting a month). I think they say 5 out of 10 women on Mirena don't get a period, 3 out of 10 get very light periods, and the remaining 2 out of 10 have normal periods. What's not to love!

Edited to add I didn't have much bleeding afterwards (just spotting) but it did hurt (a lot!) when it was inserted and I have a lot of painful cramping for about 6 weeks afterwards.  I've only had it for about 4 months now and it's been completely worth it.

Natural Family Planning isn't only about taking your temperature.  It also requires checking your mucus.  Fertile mucus is easy to differentiate between other types of mucus and of course, the infertile, dry days.  Sperm can live up to 5 days in fertile mucus, but not outside of it.  The back up plan for fertile days is, of course, not to have sex.

With all due respect to natural family planning and male fish, some of us have other physical problems such as endometriosis that cause horrendous pain and cramps. No pain pill in the world has given me relief except for birth control. Believe me, I am terrified of blood clots and weight gain and hormones but other than writhe in pain for 8-10 days out of the month, I'd rather take the risk of the pill.

I am 18 and, until the onset of my ED, had been on BC since 16 because I suffer with dysmenorrhoea. I have only come off of it so when I regain my period (the BC did not stop my period dead - the bleeding ceased or was limited to mild spotting, but I would still be symptomatic) my GP and I will know. Obviously, due to my eating disorder, I am without right now. I want it back, though I admittedly dread when it returns... =__= But I'll be allowed back on the pill once my period returns.

Sorry, bit of a ramble, there. But as said above, I would rather take the pill and suffer any side effects (incidentally, I didn't really get any of those) than cramps that would literally put me out for days at a time.
