does birth control make you gain weight?
my name is Chloe , I am 5' 6 and 176. I don't know how I really gained this much weight. I am used to being normal size.but , I am on the pill at the moment. I think it is the pill that is making me big. I hate it. but I have to take it because I have endometriosis .anyways , I don't eat bad and I walk about 5 miles three times a week. so why did gain 30 pounds in 6 months !!!! what am I doing wrong ? pls help
they say that the pill doesnt make yougain weight, that it might stimulate your appeptite. however, this is a generalization so maybe it did make you gain weight. have you asked your gyno? maybe you should consider switching pills to see if that makes a difference. have other health issues checked out like your thyroid
i was on the pill for a while and i never experienced a weight gain because of it.
I'e heard the same about the pill not being the root cause of weight gain, however my friend has endo and pcos and is finding it very difficult to shift any weight because of that.
Unfortunately I think that you have to be even stricter with yourself than other people, try heading more towards the "clean eating" - nothing processed, "if man made it don;t eat it" mentality and get plenty of excercise which will also help with any pain that you experience from the Endo.
I think it does. I also have endometriosis, and I am using mirena. That is a progestin hormone only bc, so there's no extra weight gain. I don't recommend this specifically because of the other side effects, but you can consider other methods that only have the progestin and no estrogen.
When I was on depo, I gained 10-15 lbs in 4 months. I recommend talking to your doctor.
A gyno once told me that while the pill doesn't make you gain weight, often women are going through a stressful event when they go on it (starting to be sexually active)--and the stress leads to eating & weight gain. That was his theory, anyway.
Personally, I've been on and off the pill for 20 years, in different formulations, and I've never had the pill affect my weight either way. Actually, the time in my life when I lost the most weight, I had just started back on the pill--which means that the time I had gained the most weight, I was OFF the pill.
The hormones in the pill cause people to get instense cravings and if you give into them you end up gaining weight. I heard that its normal to gain 5-10 lbs from the water rentention it can cause.
Another thing I heard is that most women go on it when they go to college and their lifestyle changes and they tend to drink more and be less active.
I don't know if using birth control makes you gain weight but I know that not using birth control makes you gain weight but it's a temporary gain. ;-)

Thats the strangest thing ive ever heard from a doctor. Of course you dont gain weight from the stress of starting to have sex, who gets stressed from sex? If anything the additional 'exercise' would help.
I came off the pill 2 months ago for the first time in 10 years and i havent magically dropped any weight.

I'm sorry but that's ridiculous. I don't know anyone who has gotten 'intense cravings' from the pill. Also, both for myself and others I've spoken to, it helped with the water retention especially at that time of the month.
Ive been on the pill for about 6 months and i have had no problem with weight gain or increased appetite. I think it is more psychological than anything else because we expect the pill to increase our appetite so we end up eating more. My weight loss stayed consistent and the pill even cleared up my acne. I definitely cant complain:)
I am 28 years old and have been on the pill for 13 years. The pill does not make you gain weight. Getting pregnant would make you gain more weight that taking the pill. That is ALL a myth.

Yes, wheather you are on bc or not it has nothing to do with weight gain or loss. I have been on bc for 6 years and I have gain weight and lost weight but it has to do with my eating habits and exercise habits not a MAGIC PILLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! VODO MED!
