Birth Control + Ovulation Symptoms = Ovulation?

Quote  |  Reply

Okay. I started taking my birth control pills (ortho tri-cyclen lo) last Sunday (2/15). I also started my period that day. I had sex without a condom (we're both STD free) on Saturday and Sunday night.

Yesterday I got a pain in my side that I sometimes get when I'm ovulating, but sometimes also get just randomly, it has continued into today as well. My cervix also felt a little softer and further forward than normal. But I did not seem to have excessive discharge typical of my ovulation. Saturday was the 7th day of my cycle, and last month I ovulated on the 15th day. I'm still afraid that maybe my birth control failed and I ovulated early, anyone else have an opinion?

I've been feeling a little sicky today, so of course I'm worried, but I also think I maybe be psyching myself out. I still have a day to get Plan B, so I'd love to get some feed back... thank

EDIT: I have continued to take my birth control, which I take at the same time everyday (I might have been 15 minutes late... once). I haven't missed any pills.

Read the package insert that comes with the pills to see how long you have to take the pills before they become effective.  I think it's 2 weeks if i remember correctly.  Anyone else know?

When I was on that kind of pill I felt really strange for about 3 months and had all kinds of weird side effects like hot flashes and heartburn- so it could just be you getting used to the pill.

It said 1 week if you started it the Sunday after you started your period, and that you were protected immediately if you started the day you started your period, so I should have been okay on that point

Sounds like you're probably ok then.  Unless you happen to be in that .01 percent where the pill doesn't work, you probably didn't ovulate.  The pill also makes cervical mucus thicker to help prevent the sperm from getting up to an egg, so even if you did ovulate, the odds are good you wouldn't get pregnant.

One of my friends got pregnant while on the pill because she got the stomach flu.  Because of her digestive problems from being sick, the pill wasn't getting absorbed properly and she didn't know- so they didn't work.  That's the only person I know that has happened to.

Thank you! I think I just need the reassurance... ha, I freaked out when I lost my virginity too :)
