Birth control question

Quote  |  Reply

Hi guys....(girls rather for this one!),

I was wondering if anyone is taking Necon (birth control). I just recently started taking it and I'm nervous I will start to gain weight.  I've been aiming to lose some winter weight and hope that this will not interfere!
I understand everyone's body will react differently, but does anyone have any history/stories/advice with necon or birth control?

I have been on Lo-Overal for 4 years now.  Low Dosage birth control.  I never had any weight gain with it.  However, I tried Ortho-trycyclene once, which is a higher dose, and gained about 15 pounds.  Its all  about the dose of hormones involved and your own personal genetics.  Don't freak if you gain a little, it takes awhile for your body to adjust to the hormone changes.  Changing birth control, going on it or coming off it can suck big time.  I know I get all crazy emotional if I change dosage!!  Best to stick with what works and not mess around with it too much.  I did however have to try 3 different kinds of BC before I found the one that worked best for me.

I never took that kind. However I did take Yasmin, which has the lowest side effects... it says. I gained 5 pounds right away, was never able to shake it, still can't. 5 pounds isn't a big deal. My chest went from a small C to a full D though. Maybe thats were the 5 pounds went... or water retention.

go here. It might help you choose your birth control. I dont wanna scare you but the pill you are gonna take has a lot of estrogen which might make you gain weight. good luck.
Oddly enough that is the birth control that I take- it is not a very common brand.  I have been taking it for over 5 years and it did not cause me to gain weight.  I gained the weight like 2-3 years after I started taking that brand of birth control so I am sure it was not the cause.  However, everyone is different so it may effect you differently.  I would just keep up you diet and exercise program and I would think that you will be fine!

I used to take Necon, and would love to get back on it, but thats another story totally unrelated. Like the reply above I had no weight gain. I liked it because after having been on it for several years my period was a predictable 4 days and very light. Now I'm on a progesterin only and though its nice not to have as many periods I never know when it will arrive.

On a similar note my doctor stated that some of the weight gain related to the use of the pill is because it signals to your body that you are pregnant so you won't release an egg and that can cause some women to eat like they were pregnant, because of the horomones. He said as long as you watch what you eat you shouldn't gain weight. Not sure if this is true but its what I was told.

My doctor said the same type of thing when I started birth control (I take Tilia Fe).  That a lot of the weight gain is from the eating desire that goes crazy.  And I can tell you from my experience that birth control definitely made me want to eat like I was having PMS all the time in the very beginning, but then that all went away after a few months when I assume I adjusted.

(Then I was good for couple of years but went crazy all on my own this last year.... hence why I'm on CC.  haha)  I've been on birth control for about 4 years now.

Good luck!  I'm sure you'll be fine.

I honestly think every pill is different for everyone. I've tried about 7 different kinds (not exaggerating at all!) The tiny things make me into a crazy hormonal b*tch! I tried brand after brand for about 3-4 years.... and I gained 20 pounds in that same time. Now I can't say for sure if the pills caused it... I also started some very bad eating habits, never went to the gym and drank (hey its college right?).

Anyway... I ended up getting off birth control last March or so. And thennnn I got back on it in December--- just about when i started using CC and actually going to the gym. I take Yaz and I havn't gained any weight... I've lost about 7 pounds since December. Ortho-Tricyclin and Lo-Estren definetly made me put on about 5 pounds so i think its different for everyone. Thankfully Yaz hasn't made me cry at a moments notice at work yet.  Don't you just love being a woman?

I think the bottom line is if you eat bad and don't exercise birth control will on exacerabate your weight problems.

Oh man, this happened to me so many times before I found the right pill!

I agree with what other posters have been saying -- every pill affects every person differently, so there's no way to know in advance how it will affect you.  However, you are already here at CC, which means that you can be conscious of what you're putting in your body (my doc explained with one pill that because my body thought I was pregnant, it also decided to make me hungrier...awesome), and nip and weight gain before it starts.  Good luck!

I was on YAZ and let me tell you- I love it so much I wish I could just stay on it (trying to conceive in April though).  First- I lost about 4 lbs immediately (yaz is a light diuretic) and then my breasts grew almost a full cup size.  SO I was slimmer than ever and had a nice set of knockers!  It was great!! Just went off two weeks ago though- and have to warn all the YAZ ladies out there- that water weight you lose is only lost while your on it!! It came back fast and furious(almost as fast as my breasts deflated)- but hey, I never gained a pound!
cmama and brighteyes23: Is Yaz the same as Yasmin, or from the same company?
