Going Out for Birthday Breakfast

Quote  |  Reply

So tomorrow is my birthday and my family wants to take me out for breakfast. I'm allowing myself a day off, where I won't worry too much of what I am eating and I indulge. Yet at the same time...I want to continue eating healthily and not go TOO overboard.

Basically, any restaurant is something we could go to. Such as Perkins or Baker Square. Their breakfasts are alway good...but sooo many calories! Should I instead just go to a coffee shop and get some sort of drink (latte or whatnot) and indulge in a breakfast sandwhich or scone of some sort?

What is your favorite restaurant and food to get? I say get it. This is your birthday and you should enjoy. One day does not make or break you. People indulge on holidays and vacations and then there body balances out. Happy early Birthday

breakfast is by far my favorite meal of the day.  you are allowed a morning off to indulge because it's your birthday, just eat sensable meals for a day or two afterwards.  while i still go out occasionally for meals, i try and make healthy decisions.  if you go to perkins, i'm sure their nutritional info is on their website.  my wife and i, if we do decide to go out to eat, i will check their nutritional facts first and decide what i'm going to get before hand and STICK WITH IT.  (no substituting french fries for the seasonal veggies)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Happy Birthday!

Do you get to choose the restaurant?  Maybe you could take a look at their menus.  I know that here we have a few that offer healthy breakfast alternatives (fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, etc.).  You could perhaps look up some of their menus online and find one that offers something you'd enjoy?

Personally, I'd probably go ahead and have my favorite breakfast since it is your birthday - have a "cheat" day (I go to my maintenance level on those or even a little bit above).  Even if you do go over your maintenance remember it takes 3500 calories to add a pound so you'd really have to splurge to gain.

Have a great day tomorrow!

Coffee shops are jsut as dangerous...and do you know how many cals can be packed into a scone with little nutritional value? A LOT

Say you go to Perkins... get bacon, not sausage.  Get dry wheat toast and you can just put what jam/butter you want on it.  I'm pretty sure you can order egg whites, and if not you can get eggs and just eat the amount you want.  You could ask that they are cooked with butter/oil but I hate doing that so splurge on some cooking grease for one day...no biggie.  You could also order fruit, or an english muffin...there are plenty of choices that would not completely ruin your day!

you can do healthy for breakfast if you want! egg white omlets for instance.. or just enjoy yourself for a day. happy bday!

Thanks everyone.

I do get to choose and, since I am going to a baseball game that night (meaning I am indulging in some soft serve with fudge!) I want to not indulge too much at breakfast.

I recently thought about possibly going to Dunn Bros Coffee. I know they have breakfasts (i.e. breakfast sandwiches, omelets, french toast, toast, bagels, muffins, etc.) Would going there and getting some sort of meal be okay do you think? We'll probably be eating this later in the morning, so I might be skipping lunch. And considering I'll be at the baseball game at night...well, my dinner will be the ice cream and some peanuts or something.

I don't know if you have made your decision yet but I work at a Perkins and there are plenty of good choices! Bowls of Fruit, Oatmeal, Dry Wheat toast, Veggie omelettes without cheese sub egg beaters or egg whites. Plenty of reasonable meals and you can substitue any potato side for fruit or dry english muffins as well!
