My birthday is coming up....help!
Hey
So my birthday is next week and I am for sure going to be going out and celebrating. I'm not so worried about the food (I'm going for sushi!!)--rather I'm more concerned about the bar scene once my friends and I go out.
I was wondering which drinks (other than beer, I can't stomach it) would you reccommend that are low in calories? I always wonder this and now is the time to find out!!!
Shots of vodka.
Honestly, I stick to captain and diet coke for the most part. I never notice an increase in weight after a night of drinking.
do be careful with sushi though becasue the calories vary wildy!! have a look at the yo sushi online nutritional info to compare. some things are like 70 kcal, like a tuna rice roll thing and some are like 200 like the california roll- and its really hard to see why just by looking.
i went for suchi the other night and checked the calories before so i knew what i was going to eat- i ended up eating less than 600. i didn't want to ruin the night for my friend by telling her how many calories she was eating but she ended up at over 1300- and we had the same number of dishes!!!
Personally, I'd say to hell with it and just party the day away. Next morning, get back on track as it was before. One night of celebration won't kill you or sabotage you, the worst it might do is slow your progress and give you a hangover so you're a bit sluggy the next day.
I'm an absolute believer that we must live while we're alive, and sometimes to live is to throw off responsibilities and the petty worries of the day and just be in the moment.
Eat the food that's meant to be tasted, drink the wine that's meant to be quaffed, dance and play and revel in the one night that celebrates your life.

1300 calories, eep! I got out for sushi at least once a week (sometimes twice) and I end up eating about 9 pieces total. I never noticed my weight increasing afterwards though!?!? I can't go without sushi!!!!! I'll die!
this weekend we had flavored vodka w. diet sprite. We just brought a few cans of D. Sprite w us. Just ordered vodka in a tall glass with ice... was fun stuffing cans in our purses & jackets! lol
How about a mocktail? If you do have to drink liquor, get gin.
Well, I do have to voice my personal opinion that calories don't count on your birthday but...
Rum and diet cokes are good. Almost like a rum and coke, but way lower cal. I also heard a girl order a vodka with water and lime juice the other day at a bar. That's very low cal as far as drinks go, and she said it was good.
Other than that, shots!
Your b-day only comes around once a year so I would say indulge. I mean, you said that the only point that you're worried about is the drinking...you'll be good the rest of the day so go for it.
Other than that, is it the kind of night where you can sip on some red wine? When I have it, it takes a long time to finish it so you wouldn't have the same quantity of wine as some people have beer. Or you could do the rum and diet coke thing.
My fave bar is a brewery and they also have specialty teas so many times, I'll get a beer and a glass of iced tea so I can keep my alcohol amount low. It also helps me to avoid a hangover.
Have fun
vodka soda! if u want to stay low cal. but w.e its 1 night enjoy it and happy birthday!
Food and beverages consumed on your birthday have no calories. It is also illegal to weigh yourself the day after your birthday. It's a scientific fact. Enjoy! Happy birthday!

I agree 100% It was just my birthday on the weekend, and I indulged on whatever I wanted... and you know what? I didn't gain anything! So don't worry!!!
Hi
I have no calorie counting days ie, christmas, birthday new year and go back to normal calorie counting the next day, it wont make any difference for 1 day as long as you go back on schedule the next day. Have a lovely birthday.
Lots of love and light astralhippy aka sue
I agree wholeheartedly with those above - calories should not count on your birthday. That being said, you can make choices that still are an "indulgence" but are lower in calories than, say, a bucket sized Pina Colada. A 5oz glass of wine is about 100 cal, my personal favorite is a nice smooth bourbon on the rocks for 150 cal for a 1.5 oz drink. These drinks are stronger than beer and take longer to drink, therefore less calories are consumed!
Enjoy your party! Live it up, then get back on track.
Like other people said, sushi can be stupid-high in calories. The best thing is to ask for brown rice instead of white rice (some places will do this), and try to aim for the sushi that has more fish/veggies than rice. Most of the calories come from the rice.
Any shot is usually just under 100 calories, so if you can mix with something diet...diet 7-up with vodka, diet coke with whiskey or rum (my fave), crystal light, etc. you'll be okay. Stay away from anything fruity and margaritas (though I do indulge in a margarita from time to time, especially on my birthday!) if you want to limit calories. Margaritas can have over 500 calories depending on the glass size! A 4 oz. frozen one is about 250-300 calories. On the rocks is usually less.
Have fun on your birthday and don't think too much about your diet :)
160 proof (or 80%) rum, vodka, gin, and whisky is only 65 cals per shot, mix that with diet soda, or flavored water, and you should be good. My favorite is Crystal light lemonade and vodka. But i agree, birthdays shouldn't count for calories. Just go have fun, one day isn't going to kill you!
I say live a little! You don't get to have a birthday party every day, and you can always get back on the wagon tomorrow. If it bothers you, just don't go for the really naughty things - but I would just have fun :)
I took loads of naughty days throughout my weight loss, and I've lost nearly 45lb here at Calorie Count now - so It can't be that bad to very occassionally go mad ;)
