I am going to my nephews birthday party this weekend and there is surely to be cake there.... without being rude and asking the host about calorie count and nutritional info, etc... about her food, how could I go about sticking to my own calorie count (I tend to eat no more than my allowed 1700 calories a day (during sedentary days only)....???

Fill up on the veggies and fruit. Eat a salad before you go so you are not too hungry. Have just a small piece of cake. SMALL.
Cool - thanks.... I know it takes will power, so I guess I will have to refrain from the sweets!!!!!
I agree with Salome. Try to eat something before you good so you wont be hungry and you wont have to many tempation to eat.
Ya know eating stuff one night won't make us gain 5lbs overnight so just go and have a good time. Take a piece of cake. Eat half and take the other half home. to be courtesy of course. It's going to be hard to choose good food because most kid's party has tons of finger foods which are fried and what not.

Rahana: thanks for the encouragement... I just need to overcome the weekends and events and I will be fine... during the week is great so far.
Honestly, just do your best. Do your best to eat light the rest of the day and try to do your best to eat well at the party. And don't worry about it. ENJOY the party :) You can go back to eating healthy the next day :)
Cut yourself a small piece, and only allows yourself that.
I also eat something beforehand, and again, take small portions and only eat what is on your plate- no seconds.
