A bit confused about maintaining certain weight
I am eating 1250 calories per day, as recommended by the tools on this site. According to the same tools, I will reach my goal weight of 135 pounds in June of 2008.
When I finally reach my goal weight, what then? Does it mean that I will be eating about 1250 calories for the rest of my life? If I were to eat more than that, would I start gaining again because my body has become accustomed to a year of 1250 calories?
I guess I don't understand maintenance. How does one get adequate calories for one's size, stop losing, but NOT put it back on? I've gained and lost and gained this weight THREE times now over the last 10 years and I have sworn this is the last time.

You'll have to increase calories slowly when you hit your target weight. At some point you'll find a balance that will keep you fairly stable. But you can easily move a few pounds with sodium intake or other issues. But basically eat a little more. If still losing weight eat more. If gaining a little then cut back a bit. If you increase say 100-250 calories every couple of weeks you won't gain lots of weight. 250 calories is I guess a 1/4 pound per week.
FWIW I'm eating more then what the site claims is my maintance and it's still not enough.
One more point. I'd suggest starting to ramp up before you hit your target. The lower your body fat levels the less your body likes to be shorted food.
the expenditure tool will help you figure it out when you reach your goal. but basically, you need to eat as many calories as you burn, when you are maintaining. i lost my weight averaging around 1700 cals per day, and now i'm maintaining (for more than one year) at around 2100 per day.
