I have lost 171 pounds with a raw food diet and in my opinion is the best way to lose weight!

I generally have a homemade Granola for breakfast and lots of fruits and veggies.  Very little meat and I usually stick around 3 ounces of chicken if I do have any.  I get my protein from beans which I have at least a cup a day.

I usually don't eat anything processed BUT I do make exceptions like yesterday for my Husband'd Birthday and I had a very small piece of cake.  It didn't taste at all good and that is the one thing that I have found is that I am so sensitive taste wise to sugar and fat that they just take yucky to me now.

I started out at 348 pounds and am now down to 178.
this site will give you a place to start michelle

There is a calorie counter called Venix who is a Raw Foodist with an enormous knowledge base regarding raw foods and all foods in general. Maybe try to touch base with her or post a thread in the Vegetarian forum where she frequents. I have learned a ton from her already and am still learning. Also Venix's profile is informative.
I try to eat as much raw, unprocessed food as possible, but I wouldn't say I'm on a "raw food diet" per se. I need to eat cooked meat for my protein, but I do try to eat beans as much as possible as a healthier protein source. It's all about moderation.
If you study up on it on the internet... you'll see long-term dangers in all-raw diets... I've tried it- hard- for a long period of time, along with many others caught up in a belief that God blessed it... and was hurt when critized for not losing weight...      :-(

It doesn't always work for weight loss! What bothered me most was the misinformation that is sent out with it... Since then, I found where folks who 'preached/believed' in it, later found serious health problems in theirselves and their children... About two years is when they show up... Many important nutrients are left out without animal-source foods, unprovided for in the all-raw diet, that had a scary common danger... Mental problems like delusions, etc.

Everybody dropped this with time, as it was really hard as well, and no-where near as effective as claimed. (And terribly expensive!!!) Some folks had physical problems...

Search for 'When hallelujah becomes what happened'. It opened my eyes... I'd really believed in it and blamed myself...  Short term could be good, (as in a serious illness in your life helped by special diets), but it's not a life I trust anymore! Hope this helps :-)

I don't think it can really work unless you commit to eating that way for the rest of your life.

More importantly, what happens when you go on a trip and the only thing available is prepared/processed food? Do you starve yourself?

Hey there! There's a really great raw diet food forum out that that I've enjoyed reading: http://www.rawfood.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimate bb.cgi

One thing that you need to remember is that there is so much more out there than just the fruits and veggies which are important but don't forget the nuts, seeds, beans and legumes.  All of the above work together to provide a balanced diet.

WholeFood/Raw Food Consumption is about health and your weight will fall into where it should be.  The focus is eating healthy and not filling our bodies with calorie/salt/chemical laden foods.

When I started this 7 years ago at 348 pounds it was hard, very hard but I have remained 95% Whole/Raw food for the duration and my Doc has numbers to prove the health factors in lower cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure and many other factors as well.  I am now 178 and have about 20 more pounds to go but I am not focusing on that, I eat to live and not live to eat and the weight is naturally falling off.

Good luck!

Venix has a link to food combining principles ... her profile is linked above.

This is an interesting thread ;)

I have a question...someone mentioned "but don't forget the nuts, seeds, beans and legumes"  How do you eat raw beans?  Am I missing something?  Just curious ;)
