BLC 12 - GREEN Team Motivational Meeting Place!!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone! I thought since no one has created a meeting place for our team that I'd make one. It's nice to meet all of you! Lets work hard and help motivate each other! BLC11's green team rocked it, so we have some pretty large shoes to fill!

Hey there Kirie, I remember you from other BLC's! This is like my fifth one, and hopefully my first one without an injury. I have had two surgeries in the past 9 months that have really taken their toal on my work out routine. I am three months out from a bicep tendon tear so the weights will be at a minimum this challenge but I am still busting my bum in the gym doing aerobic activity. Thanks for starting the thread for the team, and hopefully we will have a very active group this challenge.

Well good luck to you and to all our teammates! Talk to ya later.

Papa

Hi papa!! Glad to see a familiar face here on the green team! :) I'm so sorry to hear about your injuries! That is so hard to deal with I'm sure. You seem to be optimistic about it though which I believe is half of the battle! My goal for this BLC is to watch what I eat. That definitely got me off track last time. Glad to hear from you! I hope we get to meet our other members soon.

Kirie

Hi team good luck to everyone! My goal is to also watch what I eat and work out often.  Both of these can be challenging at times with a six month old!  My weaknesses are the weekends and late night eatings (when I get up to feed my son).  I hope this challenge will push me harder and make put down the 10th cookie :)

Jill

Hey ladies, I guess once again I am the only guy in the group! No problem I can handle being surrounded by women!

Kirie - I am trying to be as optomistic as I can, even though every time I go to physical therapy it hurts like *&^&*%! I will come through all this and be better for it. I can say at least I haven't gained that much over the last 9 months and two surgeries. Ok, I have to ask, since your reward for hitting 140 is a tattoo. What is it going to be? I currently have 4 and getting ready to get the 5th! Me personnally I think you look great in your picture!

Jill - Watching what you eat should be the hard part! The exercising is the easy part with a 6 month old! Always on the go! Is this your first? If so, just wait till he learns how to walk! Then you will be running everywhere! I am still chasing my 12 year old. The weekends tend to be my downfall to (especially during the summer!) but I try not to eat past 630-7pm every night.

We can all do what we set our minds to do! If you need someone who understands better than anyone about weight loss then you can talk to me, or if you need a shoulder to cry on, someone to beat on, someone to vent to, etc.... then I am here for ya. Talk to y'all later!

Papa

Hey Everyone!  I'm so excited to be on the Green Team again!  I was on the green team last challenge and we totally dominated!  Let's do it again this time!

My biggest challenge this time around will be finding time to exercise and planning ahead to eat healthy.  I started a second job between challenges and between working 2 jobs and taking dance lessons I barely have time to breathe.  Fortunately the salsa classes are great exercise, but I miss my cardio classes at the gym that I used to take.  As far as food goes, I try to take frozen lunches to work but dinner has gone from being a healthy home cooked meal to fast food that I can eat in the hour I have between jobs.  It is so challenging but I know that if I actually plan ahead on the weekends I can be ok during the week.  It just takes a lot to get up and do that when all I want to do is catch up on the lost sleep from the week!   So I will definitely be needing encouragement for that!

I hope that all is well with the rest of you!  Go Green!

I just wanted to stop and say hi to my fellow GREEN team members.  This is my first BLC and I am very excited!  Looks like we have a lot of returning members on the team!  Any pointers for a first timer?

I am really looking forward to being a part of this challenge with the rest of you!!!

The only pointer I would give is don't give up!  If you have a bad week and gain, it is pretty much guaranteed that someone else on the team had an awesome week and lost a ton!  We are all in this together and we all need to participate even when things aren't going so great!

I agree with BHMoore on this one...... DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!!! All you need to do is read my bio to see perseverance. This challenge is based on teams, but I do not accept apologies, do what you can do and nothing more. If you gain one week, don't fret, you will lose it the next week. If you don't log your food or exercise for a day or two, jump right back into it with renewed vigor! The long range goal here is as individual as each one of us that make up the team (aka FAMILY) We are all here to make a change in ourselves, not for a team! I challenge myself among my teammates at the same time as we challenge the other teams! Last but not least is we are all here to encourage and motivate each other! I know that if I can make it through everything that I have and am still here doing my best to reach MY personal goal of 100lbs lost then anyone can.

Papa

Hi All!

Kirie, thanks for starting and good to see you and Papa again - -was sad to see our last team split up! Papa. hope you enjoyed vacation (bet it feels so long ago already!) and hope the phys therapy is going OK...at least you're allowed to curse like a sailor:)

Hi Jill, bhmoore, and rocconess13 - look forward to getting to know you all! Rocconess - I just recommend checking in regularly on the team forum --I thought it really helped from a motivation and support standpoint.

My goal is to continue with an hour of cardio 5-6x a week, and strength training 30 mins 3x a week. (Am currently out of work so no excuses/may as well take advantage of having time for onece!) I started Couch to 5K, so should also be comfortable with a 5K by the end of our challenge.  I'm experimenting with an 'urban garden'...basically I converted my usual small flower garden into a veggie garden- - -hopefully all will go well, which will then lead to another goal to gook like a madwoman and freeze tons of good healthy food so there's no excuses for easy naughty food for quite a time!

Yes, there is a lot of responsibility to keep the Green Mojo going - wow, the last team just dominated!

Hello fellow Greenies! I was in BLC9, also on the green team, and it worked well for me. I missed the next few due to being away at sign-ups time, but managed to lose about 15 pounds since then and am looking for some extra support for the summer - I just can't resist all the yummy summer foods - potato salad, beer, burgers, hot dogs...Can you say "fat"? Can you say "sodium"? Can you say "cholesterol"?  Went camping this past weekend and I'm up 2.5 pounds from my start weight! Good grief!

I don't really log calories any more, I eat pretty much the same thing on week days and I am away from my computer on the weekends...that's when it gets away from me. I have a very physical job, but I am not sure how much I burn on an average day, so It's hard to know how much to eat.

Exercise? Well 8 hours of gardening/landscaping/sodding/mulching a day plus one hour work outs, yard work and walking on the weekends means I get some every day. I just can't handle having a day without something to get my heart rate up. I guess after 9 months of this I am finally liking exercise...or maybe I just like food and exercise is the best way to accomodate that. ha ha!

Hope everyone is having a great week so far...I'll do my best to get things back under control before Thursday's weigh-in...hopefully I won't have to attend any barbecues this week!

Hi everyone! This is my first BL and I'm very excited about it. I thought I'd check in to say hi. Hi!

Thanks everyone.  You can be sure that I won't give up.  I have been battling my weight really hard over the last two and a half years.  I suffered a couple major injuries in a three month period that eventually caused me to have a huge operation on my ankle, but I am still fighting and I am going to conquer this.

I have a good feeling about this group . . . If we pull together and stay that way I think we are going to be hard to beat!  Let's stay in touch.  Smile

Papa-  Sorry for the late reply, I've been pretty busy! I'm so sorry to hear about your physical therapy hurting :( My mom is going through it right now (she's trying to get her stamina up since her heart attack) and it's no walk in the park for her either. I think I'm going to get a picture of "Kirie" she's my favorite video game character (I'm a nerd, I know) on my back somewhere. I don't want it too visible just for the fact that when I start looking for a job, I don't want the employer to rule me out because of a tattoo. That's so cool that you have 4 of them! What are they of??

Hi BH! I also find that when I plan ahead I do much much better than if I do it on the fly. Maybe I'm just not a good procrastinator :)

Rocco - I'll second and third what everyone else said, and don't give up! Also I've found to make small changes at first (if you are just starting out on your lifestyle change), because I know I got overwhelmed at first and ended up quitting.

Makphl - Hey there! It's so great you're on the team with Papa and I still! I do miss the black team as well, but I have a feeling I'm going to love this one just as much :) And by the way, grats on the last challenge! You did amazing! We'll definitely keep the green mojo going ;)

Jillian, Lily and efish - So nice to meet you all! Very excited to be on our journey together through BLC12 :) It'll be a lot of fun!

Hi Everyone!  Our team seems very motivational that is awesome!  I look forward to getting to know all of you better.

My goal starting next week is to try to do 30 minutes of cardio in the morning and 30 minutes at lunch time.  When I used to do this a few months ago is when I was really dropping the weight.  I have been about the same weight for the last three months and now is the time for me to lose the last 10 pounds. They are always the hardest so I hope this challenge really gets me there over the 12 weeks.  That's only about a pound a week so there is NO reason why that is not attainable!

I am still nursing my child so I've had a hard time figuring how many calories I need to eat in a day.  If I eat to little it effects my milk and I get so exhausted however if I eat to much then I don't lose weight...it's very frustrating trying to find that happy medium.  Any mom's in the group with advice?  My little one just turned six months yesterday.  I am constantly moving when I get home from work between taking care of him, making diner, and picking up the house.

Another one of my goals is when I get up to nurse my son at night to drink a glass of water before digging into the fridge :)  I'm not even hungry however I always seem to eat something in the middle of the night.  It's a horrible habit that I must break!  It's like I'll eat good all day and then the extra calories really add up with my mid-night snacking.  Any advice on this from anyone?

Well good luck to everyone one week down 11 more to go!  We can do it you guys!

Hello Greenies!

This is my 1st BLC...altho I am a long time C-C member (fallen off the wagon for about a year)

Wah I didn't get to post a loss this week I'm sorry to say, but I didn't gain!

This week's goals:

* drink 8-10 glasses water daily
* plan my meals the night before, print the menu + post on my fridge
* ACTUALLY FOLLOW MY MENU
* dust off my elliptical trainer

Here's to a great week everyone!

Tammy

Sorry about not being on to much this week ladies, I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off. This has been my week......

4am - wake up
5am - Physical Training (work out at gym!)
630am thru 4pm - work
430 - 11pm - Cub Scout Camp!!!!! (Tonight is the last night, HECK YEAH!!!!!)

Dont get me wrong I love the little buggers! This is my fourth year doing camp and it is a blast but being 1 of the BIG 4 it turns into more than just showing up for the 4 hours the program is on. I have even been told this year by one boy that I am his favorite leader! Bad part of that is both his parents are Scout leaders!

Makphl - Hey there! I enjoied it very much and it has only wet my appetite to move back there. PT is going good, I was realeased yesterday "under my own recognizance" I have to keep doing the same exercises but I can now do them on my own.  Keep up the C25K and I know you will be running a 10k soon after!

Lili - Hello and Welcome back! I believe we were team mates in BLC9. Summer = Comfort = Chips/BBQ/Beer! = Bad Juju! It is the same for me. I am starting back on the logging AND MEASURING of my food, just to keep myself in practice and giving myself a little reality check. See I am the second choice you listed.... I like my food, so I HAVE to work out.

Efish - Hello and you are always welcome here. Don't just check in, get comfortable, kick your feet up, and PLEASE provide any input you want. If you need encouragement we're here, if you need motivation we got it (I am 6'2", 275 and I have a set of boots that need a good shine every now and then!) I can cyberly give you a kick in the backside if need be. Yes, it does work both ways, I need one every now and then so you feel free to do the same for me!

Rocconess - You sound like me, I had knee surgery in Nov 08, and then blew my bicep tendon in April 09! But I am happy to say through both of them I held my weight somewhat stable! I am back in the gym again, just can't LIFT as much as before the last injury!

Kirie - We have both been busy! Pain (as long as it is not lingering) is just the body telling you "Hey, Jack***, don't do that again!" It has been getting less and less the more I work on it. I am just glad you can't see my old pictures.... you say your a nerd, nah, I was the nerd! All I needed was the tape on the center of my glasses and I would have been ready for the leading role in "Revenge of the Nerds" All my tats can be covered also, I have a Native American armband on left arm, Heart with two teddy bears on left chest, My sons portrait on right chest, and a dragon on right shoulder. I will go in and post a couple of them in my gallery. Getting ready to get my fifth.... a Mariners Cross, it is half Anchor and half Cross. My mom bought my a pendant before I went to boot camp and it has been with me every sense, now that I am getting ready to retire I am going to get it put on my calf with "Watched over me, sailing the stormy seas" written above and below it.

Jill - You can and I know you will! I have been stuck at 20 pounds from my goal (due to injuries) for close to a year now! Well, this guy has no advice for you on the nursing part, but I do agree with you on grabbing the glass of water before hitting the fridge. My wife used to get pissed that she could never lose weight and complained that she always felt stuffed when she woke up. Well, one night I stayed awake to keep an eye on her....... she was eating in her sleep! She got out of bed, walked into the kitchen and somehow without making ANY noise fixed a meal, AND cleaned up. Supposedly she didn't remember it, but she went to a doctor for it and it now only happens when she gets extremely stressed.

Tamji - Number three the way we all are now days is going to be the hardest! Good goals and welcome back to C-C! No gain is a victory in my eyes! NO APOLOGIES HERE! You do what you can do and nothing more! The first time I apologized for something I had a two paragraph explaining why not to apologize. If you make it through the week and you reach all your goals and don't post a loss..... SO WHAT! You reached your goals! That is step one, the weight will come off, just maybe not as quickly as what most of us wish it would!

This is a little longer post than normal, but then again I do ramble! Talk to ya later ladies, gotta get back to work.

Papa

Can't tell you how good it is to know that I have someone who can relate to my dilemma!!!  I had to have my heel cut apart and screwed back together and all of my ligaments replaced (yes, I have the parts of some dead person in me).  I feel pretty good most of the time, but there is a 1 year recovery period, so I won't be 100% until March.  I'm back to my walking, but I can't go near as fast as I used to.  I've gone from a 15 minute mile to a 20 minute mile, but the slower pace lets me walk longer distances.

Hope that your recovery continues to go well . . . you'll get back to more lifting before too long . . . right?  I mean you just had your injury in April, so you're probably still on the mend.

Yes, I am still on the mend! This past week I was all the way up to the "heavy" weights on 4.5 lbs! It will take me about a year and a half to get back to full strength. My knee still every now and then will "remind" me that it is not as strong as it once was, but all in all I am doing well.

You keep going with yours too, and we will get back to 100% about the same time! I am by no means going to push mine more than my body will allow me too. Have a great weekend.

Papa

HI everyone! Hope you are all doing well.

This past week I finally received my Bodybugg and I love it. You wear it on your upper right arm and it tells you your daily steps, calories burned, minutes of exercise...I love it and it has really opened my eyes at how my body works.

I've learned that I burn about 3200+ cals on work days. I WAS eating 1500 on these days (always felt tired and drained after work) but have since increased my cals to about 2200 on work days. The scales go down throughout the week.

On weekends I WAS burning about 2000 and eat about 2400 and the scales would always go up. Now I'm adding in another hour of exercise and reducing the cals back to about 1800. If I am tempted by those burgers I can check my Bodybugg, see how many cals I've burned and know right away if it's okay to have it! Or I can eat it and work out until the Bugg says I've covered it!

After months of not being able to figure out what I was burning at work I love being so sure about everything. Plus, I learned that my heart rate monitor and CC greatly over-estimate my workouts - by about 400cals per workout! It's nice to have some accurate number for a change!

Just wanted to share as I feel like I am finally on track again!

Hi Fellow Greeners! Just got back from DisneyWorld and haven't even gone into the bathroom that has the scale on it. I'm sure this will not be a good weigh-in. The food was incredible there, and I'm afraid that even with all the walking (we called it the DW Shuffle) we did, it wasn't enough. But I'm back and will weigh in on Thursday.

My goal is going to be to start walking again (as soon as the giant blister that I have from walking in my tennies is healed) and drinking lots of water. These two things are huge stumbling blocks for me, but I'm going to do it.

Let's rock this challenge!
