The blizzard is calling my name!
So on top of about a month of trying to resist the DQ thin mint blizzard, today is the miracle treat day. I have always donated to that organization and now it even benefits my boyfriend. So I convinced myself in my head, that today is a good excuse to give into my cravings and buy a Thin Mint Blizzard
I havent done it yet but I added it to my calorie log, and its 540 cals, a lot of saturated fat and sugar. But if I eat that, and the lunch Im planning Ill have over 400 calories still left for dinner.
But yesterday wasnt a good day either because I went to a phillies game. I ate reasonably but not the best, for dinner I split a cheese steak (a small one) with my mom. And had maybe 3 of my boyfriends fries. About 1/4 of a water ice (again split with my mom) and a bite or two of my bfs funnel cake. So over all not bad, because everything was in moderation but it was still highly fattening and processed foods. (I only drank water though). And I did wind up coming in close to my eating allowance.
But because of yesterday Im thinking about skipping out on my blizzard. Or only eating half and throwing the rest out (wasteful) or putting it in the freezer (but its never as good the next day)
Should I indulge or forget about it?
Oh and if I do indulge, what are some low cal suggestions for dinner so I dont destroy my calorie intake?
If you've allotted it into your calorie intake already, then just go for it.
For dinner, make yourself a huge salad with spring mix or baby spinach and lots of veggies and throw some grilled shrimp on top, and use a tbsp or two of a fat-free balsamic vinaigrette.
I was just thinking salad for dinner, but instead of shrimp (as I dont have them on hand at the moment) of using tuna (packed in water of course) and as for the salad dressing, theres only one I like to use and thats just plain old Balsamic vinegar, not the vinaigrette.
Not because I don't think you should eat all of it, but because I don't think you should take waste into consideration. You paid for it, it's yours to do of as you wish. Throwing half away won't solve world hunger so the waste argument shouldn't come into play in this situation. If they sold a smaller one then yes, buying the biggest they have then eating 3 bites and tossing it away is wasteful in essense, but buying the small, eating what you want and throwing the rest away is your right. You PAID FOR IT.
Plus I encourage everyone to learn this behavior in order to prevent unnecessary eating. Learning to stop eating when you're full is the biggest single thing you can do to for yourself in learning how to prevent weight gain.
Maybe get a small & eat half.. That would work!!
If you're really worried, why don't you try making your own with Slow-churned mint chocolate chip ice cream and some thin mints or similar cookies? It would probably be fewer calories because of the light ice cream, and you can control the portion size. Also, if you have Turkey Hill ice cream at your grocery story, they make an AMAZING light mint ice cream called "Skinny Minty" with mint chocolate Keebler cookie pieces in it. It's 140 calories for a half cup, probably a lot better than the blizzard.
I'm going to get one on the way home from work, have a few bites, then pass it off to my boyfriend once I get home. That way I can have a treat, help the children and "be good"!
My work is also partaking in miracle treat day. Some girls are running to buy and I've been craving one. So I went with a small banana split blizzard which according to the DQ website is 440 calories. I plan on eating half today and biking it out of my system later this evening.
If you feel guilty about eating the treat, I think just dropping in and donating the money is a good idea.

I vote for eat half and throw the rest away or save it for tomorrow.

When I read this I was like "That's so wasteful! I would never do that!".
But then I remembered throwing away half of a Taco John's taco salad just two days ago
.
Make your own blizzard with low fat mint ice cream and the 100 calorie pack grasshopper cookies (or oreos). It will be way fewer calories and you'll still get the same thing basically.
Or ask them to give you 1/2 of a regular small size. i've done that and they've never even batted an eyelash.
they let you make your own size? unheard of!
i LOVE dq blizzards, but when i found out how many cals were in my favorite kind (anything w/ peanut butter cups: 740 cals); i almost died! so i steer clear of the place. but now i have to be wary of coldstone. just as many calories in what i like. i'm of the mind where if i don't love the flavor it'd be a waste to eat anything. so i can't just get their low-fat sweet cream ice cream w/ like fruit or something, 'cause there's no chocolate in it!
back on topic: if they won't give you a half serving, before you walk out the door, or drive away, immediately scoop half of it out and dump it, so you won't be tempted to fudge the fraction and eat 5/8 of it instead of 1/2. it's not wasteful; you'll have double karma points: 1 for helping the kiddies, and 1 for staying health-conscious.
Dude.. eat the blizzard. The world is not going to end, you are not going to gain weight ... if its what you want and its reeeealllly the treat you've been saving for, eat it .. enjoy it and move on. This, by the way, coming from someone who has lost 104 lbs (as of today, wooot!). I am learning, sometimes its ok to endulge a bit and enjoy food. :-)

I do it all the time. They fill a small cup up half way. I pay the full price for the small (which is still only like $2.50 or whatever)
Maybe you could surprize your boyfriend or mom with 1/2 of it tonight? Ask for two cups( if they will do it) A good trick is to ask for a cup of water most chain places will give you cup of water for free. You can then water the plants outside the store with the water and scoop 1/2 the yummy goodie into another cup. That way no one feels like they are getting the left overs you don't waste and you don't feel deprived and end up binging on somthing else to try and find somthing that will satify that craving( one of my biggest down falls)
well i got it
asked for two cups
split it right away and ate half and froze the rest
