bloating after eating

can anyone suggest different foods to eat to avoid bloating/gas after eating? After dinner especially i feel and look 6 months pregnant! Dinner is usually steamed mixed veggies, lettuce and chicken. i stopped taking benefiber in the morning like i usually do to see if this will help but i still feel bloated ugh!! help!

I  am also curious about this. I dont over eat (by any means) but I am sooo sooo bloated and full feeling I almost feel sick. That is my current state of being right now-even though I ate three hours ago and all I had was half of a spinach and ricotta stuffed pizza slice thingy and a half cup of minestrone soup. No carbonated beverages either. Soooo frustrating.

I eat a vegetarian diet, and have been using enzymes to help assimilate my food, and reduce bloat/gas.  I actually added a couple posts out in the Vegan and Integrative Health groups to see what enzymes other folks take, and what kind of results they're having.  

Beano works on foods other than just legumes...they nail the gas/bloat caused by carbs, whole grains, and veggies too.  I avoid dairy to avoid digestive issues.  I've been experimenting with some other types enzymes, but don't really know what I'm doing yet or know what works best.  Probiotics are also supposed to be a great help.

Another approach that works for a lot of folks is making sure you chew your food at least 20 times, and make sure you don't ingest a lot of air while eating or drinking.  They say, "Drink your food and chew your water".  

Food combining is another way to go... some folks believe that eating grains and meat and/or dairy in the same meal, or eating fruits with any other food type can cause those problems as well.  Small suggestions that may be worth a try.

The culprit could be a lot of fibre. Just as too little fibre is bad too much fibre - especially introduced too quickly or without enough water in your diet too - can make you bloat. This is no reason to stop eating it - the key is a balance. Of fibre, the minimum is 25g for a woman, 30g for a man, though many people can tolerate more than this. So make sure you're getting a good balance of fibre.

If you want to take a pre/probiotic, look for a multivitamin with them in rather than getting them through a yoghurt drink or similar, as the stomach breaks down bacteria - and cannot tell the difference between good or bad. For herbal remedies, fennel and peppermint tea both help with bloating and discomfort.

If you think you may be reacting to something, then speak to your doctor. Never cut anything from your diet unless your GP says so.
