blood pressure advice

Quote  |  Reply
at 200 or even 185 pounds my BP was anywhere from 152/90 last spring to 144/70 this fall.  I'm on a diuretic to control it.

three months ago, I became aware of sodium in food and have been tryng to keep my limit at 1,000 + or -.

My dr wanted me to keep losing weight to get it lower, which I've been doing (174 now).

recently felt a little dizzy a couple of times.  Today checked my BP at the store and it was 118/75.  I do have an appt next month, but my question is, if anyone knows........how low is too low.

I think it depends on what's normal for you.  I naturally have pretty low blood pressure (90/60) but since yours was higher, that might be too low for you.  I don't think it should be a concern unless you start feeling lightheaded and then that may be a sign that it's too low.  118/75 seems good though.

"Optimal blood pressure is generally defined as 120/80. Low blood pressure (hypotension) generally refers to numbers less than 100/60. Low blood pressure is rarely a problem and in most cases it is beneficial. Studies show that the lower your blood pressure, the lower your risk of cardiovascular disease. Low blood is only a concern if you have symptoms such as dizziness, weakness, fatigue, or palpitations. " <--- http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/anatomyand physiology/a/low_bp.htm

thanks.  Weird, that I've concentrated on getting it lower for so long.........now may not have to work so hard at it.
