Now that I have been exercising for a while I want to buy a BP cuff for at home to regularly monitor my BP. Having been a x-ray tech I used to use the old standard cuff and stethoscope. I now see many "auto" cuffs on the market but have heard they can be inaccurate. Anyone have suggestions or info on which cuff to purchase?

I would like to know this, too.  I have an "auto" cuff but my doc told me not to rely on it.

My old drs office uses the Omron Intelli Sense.  Guess it must be fairly reliable if a dr is using it.  I have one at home and got the same kind I find it to be just as accurate as the old fashioned ones.  We have one of those too as hubby is a paramedic.

Being a pharmacist, I get this question often.  Arm cuffs BP monitors are better than the wrist type.   Omron is a good quality brand. Whatever type you buy, the best thing to do is take in to your next Dr appointment, and then have them take your blood pressure using a manual technique and then with your home device.  You can see any discrepancies in values there and know generally how your home cuff compares in measurements.

I think home monitoring can be very helpful in hypertension.  Good luck.

I've used both Omron and CVS arm cuffs without problem. Am currently using CVS and uploading the data to my PC so I can print it out and provide to Internist and Cardiologist. I periodically take the units with me to appts to calibrate them and be sure I know how close it is to Dr readings. I periodically take daily profiles where I take readings every hr or two to see how it changes and is affected by exercise and medications. btw: I was blessed with a heart attack in the ER back in March (they accidently induced it) and have had severe hypertentsion since 1992 so I try to keep a handle on it.
