What do you do when you "blow it?"
I tend to lose my motivation when I get close to my goal calorie intake early in the day.
For example, I'm back from lunch and I'm left with about 250 calories for the rest of the afternoon, evening and night. I know this isn't the end of the world, but I tend to go into "panic mode" and start stressing out which usually results in some sort of binge.
What strategies do you have for avoiding (or managing) this panic?
What types of foods do you eat to make up for a slip-up (in my case, vegetarian soft tacos, who knew how many calories tortillas have!?) early on in the afternoon?
Any advise is helpful. Binging has been the death of me for years.
(Side note, is it spelled "bingeing" or "binging?")
Reason: 10/28/08 stickied for a week. 11/3/08 unstickied.
Over the last 6 mos. I've lost 50lbs. I havn't lost any in 3 wks now. I still work out but not with the enthusiasm I once had. I did real good today up until about 1:45pm then I ate 4 cookie and 2 donut holes. Now, I only have 90 cals left for the rest of the day:(
I realize calories matter but in 8 days I have not worried about the amount
Of calories I'm consuming. Not even a bit. As a result I Lost 6 pounds.
Read on if you want to know what I did.
Keep in mind I've been at this almost 2 years and I am the slowest looser at CC.
I felt stuck and stuck at a high weight.
I decided to uproot sugar and exercise more.
Eat when hungry and only healthy.
I've been avg. 1700 calories a day and many days I go up to 2k
Whereas before I was hovering around 1300-1500. who knew?!
Lost 6lbs in one week. I wonder what next week's weigh in will show me?!
I'm beginning to think that 'what' you eat matters more than the calories?
I can't say for sure yet.
Perhaps some foods create a burning affect? I really have no clue yet.
Only reporting this good news.
You can check out my journal for things I'm eating.
I'm surprised how good RAW fruits and veggies are with a good fat aND
a good carb go together. And satisfying. And healthy.
It's like I'm a zoo animal I'm eating so good.
I was working out 30 minutes on the elliptical 6 days a week and I thought
That was dedication.
Well, I up'd that to 90 minutes of Outdoor walking.
Lately I break that up into 3 segments each day. Not all at once.
It's a treat to be outside and walk this time of year.
I allow myself in small amounts things made with cane sugar.
Your body recognizes this and it's processed differently.
I think sugar caused me weight gain.
I removed bad carbs and occasionally have some carbs from health food
store but everyday I use Ezekiel Toast as a super duper healthy carb.
I find it's exciting to put healthy things into your body.
I'm now studying what they do for me.
Like radishes help the thyroid. I need that aid.
I think healthy food is powerful medicine.
I think that's interesting and worth talking about.
Best of all this (chunky kid) loves what I'm eating.
It's too good. I can't imagine not eating this way.
No turning back.
All the Best

When this happens to me, I actually give myself less calories for dinner and treat myself with the rest. For example: I have eaten all of my calories early in the day and have only 250 left for dinner: I only give myself 200 calories for dinner (4 oz of chicken and some veggies and a diet soda or water). Then, I treat myself to a 50 calorie dessert (skinny cow chocolate-cicle). This is a way to make myself feel like I'm still getting a good dinner AND a treat.
Congrats, M&M. That's something to be proud of!
Thank you for the message, by the way. I'll do my best to respond shortly.
I'm so frustrated!! (And disgusted!)
I was down to 104 lbs yesterday morning. I've been ill and stressed and not eating well, which explains most of the weight loss.
However yesterday, I was feeling terrible and I overate. I got so sick last night from eating too much -- I could hardly sleep I was so nauseous.
This morning, I weighed 107.5. Up 3.5 lbs in one DAY? Is that possible?
Now what do I do? What should I eat today? Just go back to my normal routine, or do something different?
3.5 lbs in one DAY. That just grosses me out.
Collier: You didnt gain 3.5 lbs in one day, I PROMISE!
One pound of fat is roughly 3500 calories. You could not have eaten 3 times that many calories yesterday...well I mean you could have, but you would have really had to be trying! Its probably some water weight and some of the actual food thats still in your system.
Do something to make yourself feel better today, like an extra fun workout or something, or find a new healthy recipe to try. Go about your day as you normally would with your planned calories. If you try to not eat today, or eat less to make up for yesterday's slip up, you might wake up the next day being even hungrier and over-eat again...and then it could turn into a cycle-or worse, a habit. The best way to get rid of water weight is by drinking more water. When your body is dehydrated, it holds on to every extra bit of water-resulting in extra lbs and possibly some puffiness (if youre anything like me). So flush out that extra water by drinking more water...Sounds counterproductive, but I promise its not. ![]()
Im sure youre doing great!
Path_to_perfect,
Thank you so much for your encouraging words. It's hard when I've been doing relatively well to slip-up like that.
I'm sure I didn't eat that many calories (I had a small side of hashbrowns for breakfast (400 cal?), about a cup of berries and red grapes as a snack (about 120 cal), a cup of soup for lunch (160 cal) and then a HUGE bowl of pasta with butternut squash, mushrooms and spinach (750 cal?) with too much bread (500 cal?) for dinner = under 2000)
I'll stay away from the salt today (I think that's part of the problem) and drink more water as you suggested. I usually drink about 2 liters, so ... Maybe shoot for 4?
I kind of go into disaster mode when I gain any weight lost so you've helped put things into perspective.
Thank you so much for your reply!
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
