Hey there team, sorry about not being on much this week, but I have been busy at work and I've stayed busy after work this week with Scouts, Special Olympics and Softball. I have not lost any weight this week, but have taken another half inch off my waist.

THE ONLY FACTOR HOLDING YOU BACK IS YOURSELF. DEFEAT THAT AND YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!!!!!

Papa

a half inch off your waist is GREAT whether the scale says anything changed or not, so great job! This morning I broke into the 130's (139 but nontheless!) for the first time since I was in 9th grade. SO excited  & so glad you guys are with me. Now if I didn't have that darn wedding on saturday, tempting me with free drinks and ridiculous amounts of food!  :x

Go blue team! :)

Thanks Kelz80, Congrats to you also. I know how I felt when I broke into the 260's for me that was the first time for me in over 8 years. The last BLC I got back into a pair of my 36" jeans, first time for that since 1998. I have about 15 more pounds before I hit 100 lbs lost. That will make me happy but I would love to lose another 50 on top of that. I know that will never happen though. I have done an ultrasound body fat test and from the results of that test the doctor told me I could lose every ounce of body fat on my body and still weigh 240 lbs.

All you ladies going to the weddings this weekend, remember one thing, a glass of water drank before eating makes you feel full and you will not eat as much as you would if you didn't. Drinks, well all I have to say Light Beer is the best for you or liqour mixed with diet soda's. Ladies have fun and if your still single don't knock out to many people trying to get to the bouquet!

Me, I will be with you tomorrow afternoon having a margarita or two!!! We are having a BBQ tomorrow here at our place. Probably some chicken and side dishes, veggie tray is a mainstay at our BBQ's though instead of chips and dip. The thing a lot of our friends find funny is a make a lot of weight watcher dishes and they cannot tell the difference.

Ladies have a good weekend and I will be checking in through the weekend.

Later,
Papa

Hey hey...I missed the weigh in this week, but I lost the initial 4.5 ls of water...hopefully more next week so it should be good!!

Luck luck!

I've lost my water weight too plus an extra lbs!  So my weight in this week should be good. :)

GO BLUE!

Ok Team Blue,

I need help.

I had a talking to from a personal trainer about how to get a healthy eating plan.  His plan...count calories for 4 days out of the week, for 3 days eat whatever you want.

Ok...so week one I lost 3 Lbs of weight.  It was awesome-o.

Week two I lost 2 lbs weight.

Week 3 I gained 1.8 lbs.

Week 4 (this week) I'm up 3 lbs.

So total from starting this I guess I lost 1 lb.  This seems SO wrong... :(

So, I did a rough calculation of the cal intake of just yesterday, 'cause I didn't count, and it was 779 calories OVER my burn meter.  DUDE!! This can't be right...

So I few things:

- Maybe this 4/3 plan works if you are JUST starting watching what you eat, because it makes a difference.  I somehow don't think I fit in this category, since I've been working on weight loss for a while.  It started with a fitness consultant coming to work, and everyone at work is doing this and it's helping them a LOT, but also these are people who don't cook, mostly eat fast food, and barely exercise.  So, I don't know if this applies to me..

- Also, That's a lot of freaking calories...am I going to balloon up?  'Cause 4 weeks of intaking that canNOT be good.

- Another thing to take in account.  When I started this whole thing, it was that time of the month, and this week is also that time of the month, hence why I know it's been a month.  So, I have no way of accurately telling how much this helped...but it doesnt' seem to be helping.  I don't know how much is water weight, but I do know I ususally go up 5 lbs..'cause I don't exercise and water and a lot of stuff....

- My mom, who doesn't count calories or exercise at all is ALL about this 4/3 plan and it's helping her.  I don't want to just JUMP off and discourage her from continuing this, but I don't think we are in the same place weight wise or metabolic rate wise, so I dont' think I can do this, but I want her to keep doing it if it works for her but she doesn't want to do it "alone".  Should I pretend to still do it?  While not REALLY doing it?

- And the last part of this MULTI-FACETED question.  How do I get back to a "decent" perspective on calorie counting?  I do good on the week, but those 3 days are outrageously horrible, and I'm afraid after 4 weeks of doing it, I've made "bad foods" a habit... :(

HELP!!!

Hi Everybody,

I joined last week so I just found out I am on the BLUE team!!!!  Yea!!!

I am very excited about this.  I have tried loosing  with several different plans with some degree of success, but when you are looking at 100+ lbs to loose, it can get discouraging.  I am glad I found this site and am so looking forward to this activity.

Good luck to all.

austj020 - I don't really see the point of the 4/3 plan.  I know if it was me, I would probably do something like this:  create a nice 500 calorie deficit each of the 4 days, then on all of the three days I'd over eat.  That would make all of my hard work null and void.  I would get very frustrated (as it seems like you are).  I really view calorie counting as an overall approach to chaning my lifestyle to a healthier one - learning what correct portion sizes are, learning what it takes to make me full eating the 'right' amount of calories, etc.

I don't think anyone would learn anything on that 4/3 plan.  I am no personal trainer, so I only speak from personal experience, but if I were you I would leave that plan behind and focus on all 7 days of the week.

Hello Team Blue!  I came across the results from last week's weigh-in (http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/post/105 578.html) and thought it would be a good idea to post on our page for all to see.  Congrats to fellow team members amn2008, alle0299 and rockinggrandma for being last week's "biggest losers"!!!

Good luck to everyone at tomorrow's weigh-in!  Go Team Blue!!!___________________

The Biggest Losers this week are:

amn2008 -- 7.4 lbs
alle0299 -- 7 lbs
rockinggrandma -- 5.7lbs

Congrats to our Biggest Losers!  I'm working hard to help the team!

I'll be weighing in on July 16th wish me luck!!!

Hey there ladies,
CONGRATS!!! To the biggest losers, and yes the Blue Family had the top three. At the same time though we had quite a few family members who did not weigh in at all. Let's apply some peer pressure to those folks and get them as excited as what we all are. If we stay excited there is no one who can stop this Family.

Austj020 - Ok, sweetie, It took me about 4 years trying every FAD diet out there until I got it through MY thick scull that weight loss is as simple as burning more calories than what I am taking in. That equates to have to watch what I eat on a daily basis. My last hope was joining weight watchers, I did that for about 2 months and here is the funny part I was doing exactly what they asked me to do ("You need to eat your point value every day") and I actually started gaining weight! That is on weight watchers! I finally sat down and started counting calories every day and for everything that I ate. I also went VERY DRASTIC for a guy my size. At that time I was weighing in at 330 lbs, and dropped down to under 1500 calories a day. I worked with the doctor to make sure I was doing it in a healthy way. In the first 6 weeks I dropped 45 pounds. That was in Mar 2006, and now I am sitting at between 260-265 I will not be happy until I see at least 100 pounds gone!
Ok, now that I have kinda given you my story, I would count everything. It does not mean you cannot have what you want, you just have to watch HOW MUCH of it you eat. Set yourself a caloric goal that you want to stay under, and STICK TO IT NO MATTER WHAT! It takes a lot of will power, I know! Another trick is to drink about 10 oz of water before you eat, it does work, and you will not eat as much. I am no expert but if a trainer is telling you to do this 4/3 plan, I would kick him to the curb. I have NEVER heard any trainer/nutritional advisor/doctor tell anyone they can eat whatever you want and not count calories.
As far as this plan helping your Mom and not you. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT! What helps my wife lose weight makes me gain, and what helps me lose makes my wife gain. I exercise 6 days a week, my wife does nothing. It all depends on how you are made up. Continue to do things with her if it is working for her just on the three days you are eating whatever, just remember that you cannot eat as much as you want, limit your intake and you will be fine. Remember to exercise in some way shape or form every day! Research foods on the internet and find out there characteristics you may be surprised at what you find.
Lastly, repeat after me, I DO NOT MAKE BAD FOOD CHOICES!!!!! There are NO bad foods for you, if you want it, eat it. Just watch HOW MUCH of it you eat. Your body has ways of telling you it NEEDS something, but instead of eating 6 strips of bacon, only eat one! Like I said earlier this LIFESTYLE change takes a lot of WILL POWER and that is why I say it. I was born and raised down south, I love my biscuits and sausage gravy, but now instead of eating four split biscuits smothered in gravy I have one split biscuit with just enough gravy to have a little in each bite. I HAVE ALL THE FAITH IN THE WORLD YOU CAN AND WILL DO THIS! THE FIRST THING YOU HAVE TO DO IS SET YOUR WILL POWER AND LIMITS IN STONE AND DO NOT LET ANYONE MAKE YOU STRAY FROM THOSE LIMITS!

Rockingrandma - Welcome to the family! I am in that group you are talking about, I am about 10-15 pounds away from my 100! You can do it just keep focused and do not stray from your goals.

Hey everyone, we are all doing an awesome job! We may not all lose during the week, but in just making the attempt is what matters. We are all trying to better ourselves in one way or another, that it what it's about. I am here for any and all encouragment that you can handle. Let's keep it up, and again let's start using some positive peer pressure on those family members that did not make weigh in last week.

"SET YOUR GOALS LOFTY! DO NOT STRAY FROM THEM, AND DO NOT LET ANYONE SABOTAGE THEM"

See ya ladies,
Papa

yay blue team!  Great work!  I just posted my weigh in for this week and I'm down 4 lbs!  I knew that losing the water weight would pay off lol.

Good luck with your weigh ins this week everyone! :)

Hi Blue Team!

I am excited about being part of the blue team. Let's beat the other teams, we can do it!

hey blue! sorry ive been a little m.i.a lately. the wedding i went to this past weekend was wonderfullll!!!!! it was prety easy for me to eat fairly well because im a vegetarian so my options were slim. anyway, it was great! i hope everyone else that were at wedding had as much fun as i did.

so far ive been at this plateau, where my clothes fit looser, but my number weight doesnt change. i dont see it as a terrible thing, but i would like for both inches and weight to change, ya know. so i have lost 1.5 pounds since starting this challenge, which i think is pretty acceptable, but i would like to see more. (its TTOM for me-sorry papa- so i think i may have some bloating and water retention to go along with that).

hopefully we can all stay motivated and finish out the summer by eating right and staying fit!

congrats to our biggest losers, thats really so awesome! good luck this week!

Kukua - Awesome job on losing 4 lbs! keep up the great work!

2beeskinee - Glad to have you as part of the FAMILY! We are here to support and encourage each other. This is my second BLC and I still stay in touch with some of the ladies from my first one. We still call ourselves family even though they are all on different teams this challenge. Yes, I do talk to the "enemy" but think about it, we are all here for the same thing, so even when we are trying to beat the other teams, we should be routing for them at the same time. Anyway, welcome to the FAMILY!!

Alilou1087 -Glad to hear that you had a good time and could stick to your menu. It has taken me almost 2 years now to lose my 100 pounds (still about 15 away) and I have gone through three plateau's you are describing. I went drastic when I wanted to get through mine, lowered calories to under 1500 a day (my weight during my first drastic stage was 330 lbs), and worked out harder than normal. Once I get through the weight that I was stuck at I continue for another 5 to 10 pounds and then level back off about 2000 calories a day. Stay there for awhile and that is how I have lost 85+/- pounds so far. You can try varying your calorie intake from day to day also, for some that works. Example - first day 1200 cals, next 1800 cals, next 1000 cals, and so on. This knocks your body out of its comfort zone and makes it work again. Let me know if any of this helps. DO NOT APOLOGIZE for things that are natural, I am married, have a sister, and have many female friends. I understand these things. What is this about "HOPEFULLY" with me around you WILL stay motivated or I will hunt you down and personally motivate you! Only joking, but I will do my best to motivate you with this forum.

"REMEMBER THERE ARE NO BAD FOODS, WHAT MAKES THEM BAD IS HOW MUCH OF THEM YOU EAT"
p.s. I always write it before I bite it! (put it in your food log before you eat it)

Papa

Yes, I know we are here to support EVERYONE!!! That is true. We are going through similar journeys. I was just trying to get the blue team going....:)

Hey blue!

I went on a 20 mile bike ride yesterday (much against my will... 20 is a little much lol) anyway, I got home and pretty sure I was severely dehydrated. It was pretty bad. I was glad I did the exercise, but I was wondering, could I be retaining water because of it? I weighed in a pound HEAVIER this morning than yesterday! After a ridiculous work out!!!

Anyway, hows everyone else doing?

2beeskinee - I have to apologize, I just went back and re-read my post from yesterday. I came across a little harsh. I AM SORRY!! I was in no way wanting it to come across like that. We are here to get OUR Family going! and at the same time support everyone! Somehow we need to get our family members who are not dropping by the team thread to start coming in and seeing that we are here for them. How about emails from those of us coming in every day or so? Maybe some POSITIVE peer pressure. Let me know what ya think?

Kelz80 - The reason why you may be weighing in a pound heavier today than yesterday, even after the long work out. Your body is trying to recoup from it and is naturally retaining water. It happens all the time to me when I work the weights really hard the next day I weigh in more than the day before. You will lose the weight over the next couple of days. Keep up the good work on the bike ride though!

Well, this week for me has been a challenge, I have had Scout camp every night this week. I get out of work, go home and change, then right back out the door until about 10 pm. I have not been eating the best - fast food most of the week. I will be weighing in a little later today, but i am apologizing now if I have gained anything. I promise next week I will be better and will do my best to take off at least three pounds. (1 for each week of the challenge so far.) Everyone keep up the good work, and lets all keep losing!
