Sorry about the multiple posts, but cannot figure out how to delete one.

Papa

Did I make everyone mad? Where is everyone at, wait everyone has to be at the gym (except me, I am stuck at work) We need to stay strong and do what needs to be done. LOSING WEIGHT! From the looks of the main thread we have had a good week. I would love it if we jumped into the lead, but if we don't we will still continue to work toward that.
Let's get everyone involved in the family thread. It is a great way to support each other. Encouragement is something everyone needs! Sometimes I may sound like I am chewing someone out but I do not mean for it to sound that way. If anyone ever has any problems with me please PLEASE let me know, I do not want anyone to be upset with me.

Papa

Great job this week guys!  We're in second place overall, but not by much!  Keep up the good work!  Here's the results so far:

Go Blue!

Thanks for all the support.  It appears that I had a good 1st week, second week wasn't so great, but I have been picking up exercising a little.  I sure hope this week I can see a respectable loss.

I have tried weight watchers (lost 65 lbs about 18 years ago), but can't seem to get into the new point system they have going on now.  About 5 years ago, my hubby signed me up with a physical therapist/nutritionist for 12 weeks.  I heard what she said but physically not up to the challenge for the long haul.  I am committed now.  I found out that one sister is running on one kidney that isn't very healthy and a brother has been diagnosed with MS.  I was a bone marrow donor for one sister with leukemia and I have to get in shape in case another sibling needs some help.  In addition I have to get in better shape to keep up with our 6 grandson's ages 7 months to 7 years.  I take care of 4 of the 6 while their parents work.

I am returning to the plan set out by the therapist.  She gave me guidelines as to how many Carbs., Fats, and Proteins as well as set a goal for calories.  Along with that she set up a cardio and strengthening program specifically for me.  I don't have her to "coach" me now but I really think I can do this.

Enough about me,  I hope you all have found a great reason to motivate yourself to becoming more healthy and being the best you can be.  If there is anything I can do for any of you, please let me know.

hello!

i hope everyone is well. i had a holiday the past two weeks so i came to this site less often than usual and even did not discuss the biggest loser game:) i think i will be visiting more often now, and possibly also contributing to the success of the team!

I'm not very happy with my non weight loss... I watch everyone other then me losing weight and it's becoming very discouraging ...

I'm having a hard time with evenings and weekends...I become very hungry in the evening when I get home from work and weekends are a write off for me because I always have something going on rather it's a barbq, party, camping..etc...It's just always something. My exercise is coming ..I workout 5 days a week even if just a hour walk ...I don't know what's left..Maybe i'm not meant to lose this??? :-(

Hi Folks,

Sorry I was MIA for a bit. I just got back from vacation.  I didn't have computer access for most of my stay.

As far as my diet, I did well for about 3 days and then completely fell off the wagon.  As of today I am 4 pounds up.  I will try to pull a few back off in time for next weeks weigh in, but I am guessing it wont do much for this week's numbers.  Sorry  :(   I hope you will forgive me.

I am back to work tomorrow and will try to get motivation factor back in gear... I promise!

Looks like you guys have been big losers while I have been gone.

2beeskinee- WAY TO GO!  You rock!

Papa- Thanks a bunch for the note of encouragement.  I am still here and glad to have been missed.

Kukua - Thanks for posting the results here on our thread. Great job on your lose this past week! Keep up the great work.

Rockingradma - Welcome to the family! I tried the weight watcher thing also, I understood the point system. After tracking points and calories for a week found that if I were to actually the "right" amount of points I was actually eating about 4000 calories a day. I had initially lost 20 pounds, but the last three weeks I was on the points I gained 10 back. The nutritionist that I have access to in the Navy is a joke! I talked to her for about 30 minutes and I was telling her stuff that she did not know. Sounds like you are very committed to your family, where are you from? Kids can run you ragged! I have been in cub scouting for the last three years in charge of 30 plus boys each year!
Let me caution you about using a program set up FOR you by SOMEONE else. Take what they set up and use it but tweak it to what works best for you. NOONE can tell you what works for you except YOU! If you set it in your mind you can do it! I have lost about 90 so far and I have done it ALL ON MY OWN! One thing you can do is continue to post here and encourage everyone else in the family!

Ka2007 - Welcome back from vacation and hope to see you around more! The way I see it, even coming in each day and saying "Hey" may be enough encouragement to someone to help through the day.

MsNelson31 - KNOCK THAT THOUGHT OUT OF YOUR MIND!!!!! If I had given up because I did not see the weight coming off I would still be 350 lbs., I got it through my thick scull (and I guarentee mine is ten times thicker than yours!!) that I had to buckle down and do the right things. What you are doing is sabotaging yourself, physching yourself out, and just "trying" to make excuses. BY NO MEANS AM I TRYING TO DISCOURAGE YOU, I WANT TO HELP! When you say you have a hard time at night and on weekends can I ask you a few questions? When do you eat dinner? Do all your friends know how important losing some weight is to you? When you go to BBQ, Party etc... doyou have healthy choices? YOU ARE DOING AWESOME WITH YOUR EXERCISE!!!   NOW REPEAT AFTER ME..... I AM GOING TO LOSE ALL THE WEIGHT I WANT AND NOTHING IS GOING TO STOP ME, FROM THIS DAY FORWARD NO MORE EXCUSES. IT IS ON ME TO DO THIS AND I AM GOING TO DO IT!!!! You have to believe in yourself to do this! I can tell you one thing... Just by coming here you have taken the first step and just so you know I BELIEVE IN YOU AND KNOW THAT YOU WILL LOSE THE WEIGHT YOU WANT TO LOSE! Now let's get to it!Adarmody - You want motivation, I am here to motivate. Glad to see you back, and 4 pounds, by the time you get done with this challenge you will be laughing at 4 pounds. We will get you back on the bandwagon! Vacation is always a hard time to stick to any kind of weight loss program. You have to have very strong will power to stay away from a lot of things that you are confronted with. Welcome back and let's get busy losin'.

Remember if you don't want to be motivated, you have come to the wrong place! I am here to motivate my family!

WEIGHT LOSS IS A STATE OF MIND..... SET IN YOURS THAT YOU CAN DO IT AND YOU WILL!!!!

Later ladies,
Papa

Ka2007 - Awesome job on the weight loss! I can see from the time you last posted either you work nights or you are a night owl like myself. Keep up the great work!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for encouragement Papa.  I am from Colorado, born and raised in Idaho, but CO has been home for the past 28 years.  This week has been rough and my weight gain has shown it [up 1+lbs.].  It is o.k. though because I know these things happen.  I just have to stick to logging in what I eat and be committed to exercise.  I began the week full of energy and commitment to exercise, but somehow lost it during mid week and fell of the wagon so to speak.

My thought for this week was something my mother and father taught me:

"Anything worth having doesn't come easy!  You must work hard and be dedicated to it."

This applies to all parts of life, relationships, work, and personal goals [including becoming healthy].

Good luck Blue team....

well, actually, i sometimes work nights, am a night owl, and live in europe ie in a different time zone:)))

Hey blue team,

i lost 2 pounds this week, thank god (had a bit of a rough weekend) I'm going to try and be very strict with myself this week, another 2 pounds will land me at 135 and I will have officially lost 15 pounds with 15 to go! (HALF) so i would looovee to hit that for next weeks weigh in.

I hope everyone has a good week, we can pull into first place if we all try reeaally hard!!

*for anyone who likes egg sandwiches and misses them.. i've been making the following and it really hits the spot: 100 calories thomas english muffin, 40 calorie graden veggie egg beaters, 1 slice of cheese for 50, and 10 cals of ketchup. 200 measly calories for a cheesy delicious breakfast sandwich! LOL just a thought*

Rockingrandma - Colorado, well you are close to one of my uncles. He lives in Denver, and runs a little outreach program called "Soxx Place". You have an awesome outlook about your weight loss! Up a pound this week means two lost next week to you! I see things the same way. I have already lost almost 90 pounds so mine is coming off real slow, but as long as the waist keeps getting smaller it's all good. If you are losing energy make sure you are eating enough, that is key!

Ka2007 - That explains a lot. Just curious what part of Europe? So on one level I was right, but totally off all together!? Right? Right!

Kelz80 - Word of caution, do not be too strick with what you eat! Why, you ask? Because your mind has a way of wanting nothing but what you can't have! It is just like drinking underage, if your parents tell you it's illegal you still want to do it anyway. Once you turn 21 for most people the appeal somewhat goes away. Same with food, eat what you want just limit how much you eat. Me personally, I have a couple of drinks every weekend (I make my own beer) but I include them in my food log. If I tried to make myself go without my beer I would go crazy then binge for many days on end! Does that make any sense or is it clear as mud? On another note, great job on losing 2lbs! You WILL hit it next week for weight in!

This next little note is just a little about me.... thanks rockingrandma for the idea! Well, I started out a little boy in Arkansas, ha ha only jokin'. I graduated high school 6'2" /185lbs. and stayed pretty lanky until I hit my midtwenties. I then started to gain a little weight. At the age of 28, I found out some medical history and it was not the greatest. That is when I started watching everything I ate. I started going to the gym and doing pretty good. In 2002, I hurt both knees and ankles playing softball. I was told by my (Navy) doc that I could not go to the gym or play sports period! That is when the "Upward spiral" started. At the time I was 240 and very well cut. Six months later I was 300 and getting flabby. Three and a half years later I checked into my current command at 350lbs and over 50% body fat (the way the Navy measures it anyway). I made up my mind I was going to lose. I set my goal at 100lbs. and started doing what I "thought" I should do. After a year I had only lost 20 pounds. That is when I got serious. Mar 2007 I went to my doctor and said "Either you can monitor me or you can get the f**k outta my way!" after discussing my plan with him, he reluctantly gave in and said he would monitor me. That is when I went drastic... I cut back to 1500 calories or less each day and went to the gym six days a week for at least an hour. In two months dropped almost 50 lbs. bumped things back up to about 2000 cals a day and gym 5 days a week, stayed at about 280 for 6 months. Got fed up with it, cut back again, and lost another 10 in about three weeks. Stayed at 270 for another 4 months, and have been bouncing back and forth between 260 - 265 since then. I am still trying to hit 250 which will be my goal attained, but it is getting harder to take the weight off, but I am losing inches around my waist which to me is just as good. (at least for the remainder of my Navy career.) I would love to get back down to around 200, but that will NEVER happen. When a medical doctor tells you that you can weight 240lbs with ZERO percent body fat, then I know I will never see 200 again. Anyway, for those that may have thought I was all talk and no action, now you know I have been there and I know what each of you are facing that is why I say that if you need someone's ear to chew on, mine is here.

Later,
Papa

Hey there everyone, don't forget about weigh in's! I always weigh in on Thursdays. Let's rock and roll!

"The more frustrated you become the less you accomplish"

Don't become frustrated, plow through it and set your mind that you will accomplish your goals.

Papa

Good morning everyone!

Papa, thanks for sharing your story.  To me, it is very helpful to hear how others have dealt with this issue, just like me!  Sometimes I feel like I am the only one with 100+ lbs to loose and get frustrated why it isn't coming off as easily as it went on!  In reality those pounds didn't just jump on my body over night, they crept on during my weak times and I ignored them!

I weighed in on Tues.  Should have waited until today...apparently I was retaining water!  Oh well, maybe next Tues. I will feel better about my contribution to the team.

Have a great day everyone and keep up the good work!

You are so right papa... I needed the pep talk and i'm going to try not to be so negative. I need more focas.. To answer your questions my friends and family know that I would like to lose weight it's an unspoken thing. But I can't say they really assist with it... They still encourage bad eating and drinking,  and by encourage I mean invite me out to have bar food and drinks and expect me to just pick up my food plan where I left off..But it's my fault too. I need to work on having WAY more will power but it's really hard... Here in Canada you only get a few months of nice weather and when you get an invite to do a patio it's good times...I need to come up with healthy alternatives..I really need to break these bad habits that i have...

As far as night time eating my issues are not with eating and snacking on bad food it's over eating period..even if it is on healthy food...I'll make two salmon steaks, one for dinner and another for lunch or dinner the next day ...But before the night is done i'll heat it up and eat it...no self control!! So this week I have been making only what the kids and i  are going to eat..no extra's ..poor kids can't have seconds because their mom has no self control

Thanks again for the pep papa and i'm going to keep repeating over and over...I CAN DO THIS :-)

Rockingrandma - Believe me you are not the only one that WILL lose 100+pounds! The way I see it if everyone would be as conscience about their weight as those of us here there would be way more wanting to lose 100+ than those wanting to lose 15-20 pounds. (that is just my opinion). With me the first 60 I gain did come on almost over night and I knew it was going to happen, I just didn't know it was going to happen so fast. As you read the story you will know why. It has taken a long time to get rid of it and I promised myself that I will NEVER AGAIN get that big. Weighing in on Tues you almost sabotage yourself, why, as we all know during the summer you ARE going to BBQ and if you induldge you WILL more than likely have at least one drink, Right? If you weigh in on Tues you still have a little of the "retention" from the weekend. That is why I always weigh in on Thur. that way you get a couple extra days to get in some extra work outs.

Msnelson31 - Good for you! I have to ask whta part of Canada are you from? I am close to Canada myself. I am in Oak Harbor, WA on Whidbey Island. You say your friends know that you want to lose but it is "unspoken", well, speak up girl! Let it out let it be known! Shout it to the world! Sit your closest friends down and let them know exactly what you are GOING to do and tell them that what THEY are doing is sabotaging you. It does not mean that they have to stop going to the bar or BBQ'ing, but they need to be helpful to you as well. Let them know that you CAN have a drink or two but if they see you pick up that 3rd drink then they can help you by saying hey that is your third one, no mas! no more! If they know you are serious about losing the weight then if they are true friends then they will help you. Bar food, easy solution, eat before you go out! Then if your friends do get some bar food you can have a bite or two but you will not go overboard! I know this next statement is going to sting a little, but I did the same thing and had my friends wondering what they did to piss me off. UNTIL YOU CAN HONESTLY TELL YOURSELF I WILL NOT OVER DO IT WHEN I GO OUT, DON'T GO OUT! I had told my friends and they were trying to help but they would still have high fat, empty calorie goodies, etc.... out at cookouts. That is when I made myself a hermit for about two months. In that two months I dropped 40-45 pounds, when I started coming back around they were astounded, and after that they have been SOOO MUCH MORE supportive it is not even funny! I even have a couple of girlfriends that when my wife and I come over she has gone onto weight watchers and fixed me special meals. Check out Weight Watchers for some of their recipes I have started fixing some of them when we invite friends over and when they comment on how good it is I love to see the expressions when I tell them where I got the recipe. I actually have encouraged about eight friends to start their own weight loss program, and ALL of us have lost weight. Granted I have had the most to lose, but I have been thanked by not only the ladies that have lost, but also by their husbands. I will just say that they are wearing "clothes" they have not felt comfortable wearing in awhile. Seconds, I love seconds! I really do! That is why I write everything BEFORE I eat it. If I can AFFORD to have seconds then I will have some if not I don't. If I can't I instantly go in grab a big bottle of water, throw in some zero cal drink mix, and down it as quickly as possible. It feels you up and will give you some extra time to THINK about the reason you want seconds. If you are truly hungry then have more, but wait at least 30 minutes after you eat the first plate. If you are still hungry, cut the first plate in half. Eat smaller portions the second plate. Another little trick I have learned is USE A SMALLER PLATE, it will make you portions look bigger and will subconscienciously make you feel more full. I could keep going and going, but I am going to stop for now. If you want more ideas or more motivation let me know. Like I said I have been there and I know what it took for me to lose and I am here to help anyone and everyone.

I need to get to work now so I will see you ladies tomorrow!
