Hello all,
A question for the women: at what BMI did you notice that more men paid attention to you/your body more than in your lower weight past? Just curious after reading the thread about positive comments since weight gain.
Thanks. SSkirt
Well, I'll tell ya, I've been at BMIs between 21 and 32. I don't know how to put this that won't sound egotistical, but I haven't had a problem getting attention at any weight. It's all about how you feel in your skin. I will say, however, I get a lot more comments from shallow men at 21. And of course, when I was at my lowest weight, I was feeling pretty darn good about what I looked like, and I wore the types of clothes that got my body noticed. So yeah, shallow men were looking, but only because I'd basically told them to.
I agree with Orangecls. Whoever said that attraction was 10% looks and 90% personality was spot on.
If you're confident and interesting and outgoing, then you're going to be attractive no matter what you look like. I suppose that your BMI could contribute to that, but it would mostly be due to you being healthy and happy with how you look, and gaining confidence from that =)
yes, confidence makes a HUGE difference!
(however, i will mention that i could have had every guy i ever wanted at a BMI of 23/24, but no no one looks twice at my sad body of 15 except my good guy friends- definitely not interesting in dating me, lol!)
When I started recovery I started feeling much more confident and happy, so that helped. But I certainly got more interest at a BMI of 19 than I did 15-17. It was partly down to my mood, too: when deep in ED I was not a fun person to be around!
NOTHING before 18; some at 19 and the most once I hit 20. But what guys think is really not important in any way to your recovery. Better to think about how healthy and full of life you will feel rather than care what others think!
(Sorry if tmi lol)
mm it really depends. my longest relationship was when I was at a bmi of 17ish, when I started to go below that (it was like a period of 'semi recovery' which didn't last) he started to find me less attractive I think.
I have had attention from various guys at all weights tho, down to stupidly low, but in those cases it tends to be guys who KNOW me and probably can look past the weight I guess? I did notice that when I was at a higher weight I would get attention when I was out with friends in clubs/bars etc. it might have something to do with confidence/level of interest too tho cause err, I really have pretty much zero interest in the opposite sex below a bmi of 16. it's actually a secret motivation for recovery of mine ;)
