At what BMI level do you feel at ease?

Quote  |  Reply

I myself am 5'3" and when I was at 114.64 pounds (which is considered to be my "ideal" weight, depending on which calculator are you using) I felt I'm just too chubby. It seems to me that an ATTRACTIVE or normal weight is construed to be much much lower. Ideally I feel comfortable at the lowest end of a healthy BMI range which equals 112-113 pounds for me.

Does anyone else here think the ideal weight is just TOO CURCVY for them? What do you all feel about "Ideal weights"?

Of course it depends on the person/frame, but I think girls start to look a lot plainer and more ordinary under a BMI of around 22... I don't think under 20 looks nice at all and when I think of people I know who are that light they are mostly tired and ill and consider themselves underweight. I find the 18.5 cutoff point bizarre. But I have never been very attracted to the skinny look, I know some girls like it.

So I guess for me, aesthetically, around 22-24 is ideal. Mine is currently about 23 and that's a nice size for me, I am trying to tone up my arms and legs though, and I would happily drop to 22. Any further and I think I'd start looking stretched and tired and I know the boy would complain! But people are really different, I am very much an hourglass shape.

My ideal is about 23 or 24.  If I get below that people start asking me if I'm feeling OK because I look quite gaunt.

NB.... if you're thin but you 'feel chubby' (or if you're fat but you feel slender) that says more about your emotions, your confidence & your self-image than it does about your body.

it all depends on how your body is compromised... muscle weighs more then fat but takes up less space.

for example I myself am about 108-110lbs at 5'2(1/2) and actually think that I am almost too thin right now. (If you want to look at my pictures) But there are girls on here that are the same height as me and weigh less yet look BIGGER then me, because they have a higher BF% then I do... I feel as though I look smaller then how much I actually weigh, most people guess my weight to be around 95-100lbs.

if you feel "chubby" at a low BMI, you may want to start incorporating more weight training excersizes and a good cardio regime to shed any excess fat and build muscle... or like gi-jane said, it may be more emotional then physical, we tend to be our worse critics

and judging by your picture you don't look 'chubby' at all... I think this may all be in your head, perhaps some self esteem issues going on

I, too, am at a healthy weight, but I think that I must have a high fat pecentage, because I look much heavier than I am, which is why I want to lose weight. A lot of fat goes to my face, and that's one area I have a problem with. I prefer to be technically "underweight," because my face (and  body proportions) look average when I am at a lower weight.

I also think that shorter girls who fall into a healthy BMI range look curvier than taller girls that are also in the healthy range, even though BMI calculations  do take height into account. That may be my problem - that any healthy weight on my small frame is going to look curvy, or, fatter than I'd like to look.

I think it's all relative to the individual.  I'm 5'2" 110 (sw=119 gw=108).  My BMI is 20.1-20.3 depending on the calculator.  So I'm on the lighter side of healthy BMI. I am by far not skinny.  I am small framed too.  Although I'm in "my healthy weight" category.  It's the shape I'm trying to achieve more (tightening loose gut and butt).  However others that are my height and weight think they look skinny...so like I said it's all relative to what's healthy for you.

My body usually feels best at a BMI of 22 -- I can't get any lower than that without serious effort, and I feel no real motivation to do so since 22 is healthy.

That's where I am right now, but since my thighs still feel a little chubby I'm exercising to strengthen them up. I don't really want to lose anymore weight, though.

at BMI of 18.5 on the verge of healthy....and underweight....my mom start commenting that my bottom are actually gettting too big....actually they are...this is because all of my weight is accumulated there....why????

in my home town....thailand...people are sooooo small...i am 5'9 so i'm like a giant in the crowd....although i am quite thin....but i feel comfortable with bmi anything lbetween 18.5 -  20

In my adult life, I've been everything from 18.1 to 27.4.  I'm happiest at between 22-23.6.  If I get under 22, I start to look ill--so much so that complete strangers will start commenting on how "sick" I must feel.  Also, I have found that getting below 22, for me, involves having to resort to eating disorder type behaviors, which is definitely not healthy.

Between 20-21.5  I'm about 23 now and I feel a little pudgy.  :P

It's so strange how different peoples individual healthy BMIs are. My friend is a similar height to me and has a much high weight and BMI but at my BMI (admittedly I am underweight) would look shockingly thin. Whilst I, at a BMI of 17.5 at best, look skinny but not too thin, still have a few curves even though I am trying to be above BMI 18.5 for health. I also have a body fat of 16% roughly, so have good muscle definition - maybe this is what stops me looking too skinny? Dunno. Goes to show how one size does not fit all really!

My BMI is 21 right now, and I think my body shape is satisfactory but could be better, so I only restrict when I feel like it. I've been at 19 and 23 - 23 on me was not very attractive, 19 was a little too thin.

I only WISH my weight would come on as curvy instead of lumpy.

I'm at 25 right now and very happy with that.  I'd like to see what 23 looks like though as I suspect that would be about perfect.  I have too much muscle and bone to want to get down to 20.

My BMI is about 21 at the moment, I am working to get back to 20.1 where I felt happiest. My problem is I don't have curves (no bum or boobs) I'm just wide so look bigger than my BMI and weight suggests. I'm 5'7" and would love to get under 9 stone but that has never (quite) happened.

I feel better when my BMI is low. I am a tall girl - 5ft 11" with an hourglass figure - wide hips and a small waist. I weigh 140 lbs and my BMI is 19.5 (that varies though, according to what calculator I use...). I have strong thighs due to spinning 4 times a week but I am generally slim except for my stubborn area of love handles! But they're womanly and add shape. I have come down from 180 lbs in 5 months and I am pretty happy now, maintaining.

The weight I was my entire adult life (and which I felt happy at) is 100 lbs. That calculates to a BMI of about 18.5.

Like others have said, it's very much relative to the individual.

BMI is just a reference tool.

I'm comfortable at a BMI of 30.4 because I'm one those people that exposes the BMI's flaws.

18 something.  I looked better lower but staying healthy is important.

I'm 5'4, and at my thinnest (125) I was more uncomfortable with my body than I was at 140-145.  I think it was because I noticed my "flaws" (like my little pooch tummy) way more at 125 than I did at 140, and my body just somehow looked better.  But that puts me at the very top of healthy range for my BMI, so go figure.

I started to feel very uncomfortable and pick at myself or my clothing all the time after hitting 24.9... now I'm 22.5 and feel much better. The lowest my BMI has ever been was 21, and I remember that felt really comfortable-- both in my own skin and in how my skin looked to others. I have a rectangular build with a huge rib-cage and a small chest, so I think that at lower than 21 I would start looking too rib-cagey (I can see them at 21) and lose my chest entirely. It is very build dependent.

Hope you find your healthy-range, best-feeling BMI!

What is the BMI of air? Lighter than that.
