BMR and eating disorders

Quote  |  Reply
So I have a past of being eating disordered. It only lasted a year but I really think that I have permanent damage on my metabolism and my BMR. I dont think that I burn 1400 cals a day doing nothing. I would guess maybe 1000.

Any body have any information on this? Or anybody know a specific test I can do to find out. I thought I once read that there's like a breathe test?

I used to have disordered eating for around two years, my calories ranging from 400-1000, and I can easily eat 1700 calories without gaining weight.

I don't think your BMR has lowered much because the disorder only lasted a year, it just may take some time for your metabolism to start working properly again, you just have to be patient...

By the way, how old are you? If you are in your teens you need at least 1500 calories to help aid in growth.

I agree with technicolor - if it is true that your BMR is lowered, the only way you are giong to get it back to normal (it is NOT permanent) is by eating enough calories. Even if you are correct (and I doubt you are, just because I would say nobody could estimate how many calories they burn by not moving all day, nor under any other conditions), you don't want to keep your BMR there - it's not healthy.

You need to up your intake, I'm guessing by a lot.
