BMR question.....
I have my activity level set as sedentary since I pretty much sit on my butt at work. I do exercise every evening and I log those hours after the fact. I figure I would just keep the sedentary level since anything I burn extra is like a bonus. :) However, I have been noticing that my burn meter rate is decreasing. So I guess that means I have to work that much harder to burn those calories. At the moment it is stating that my BMR is 1490 instead of the 1500 it normally was at. So basically, my question is, why is it decreasing? Am I really just going to have to work my butt off harder and harder to burn the calories my body should be burning on its own?
Well, if I understand it right, your BMR goes down as you lose weight...so the more you lose the harder you have to work...because so many pounds ago your bmr may have been 1500 but since you lost that weight it doesn't take as much to maintain your slimmer physique:):) Hope that makes sense:)
Man....that is kind of the pits. That means more working out and less food.
I would suggest that, if you exercise regularly, you choose one of the 'activity levels' in the CC calculators that most accurately reflects what you do. Reason being that if you exercise you raise your resting metabolism as well as burning off calories at the time. So sedentary + exercise can be inaccurate and underestimate your needs.
If you do exercise way in excess of your normal amount, add the extra separately, of course. And maintain a 500-700 cal deficit, no higher. Yes, as you get lighter, your energy needs decrease a little. Start too low and it becomes unpleasant.
If I kept a deficit of at least 500 a day, I wouldn't gain right? I could maintain my weight at that level?
if you have a deficit then by definition your output is greater than your input, so you would lose at a rate of about 1 pound per week, theoretically. of course, everyone's body is different but this is what you can expect.
