body adjusting to calories
how long does it take your body to adjust to calories? for a long time i was eating below my BMR and maintaining weight, tried upping it (still below my BMR) to rev my metabolism and it didnt help the weight come off, and now i'm so fed up i'm about to just eat my BMR ( only 50 cal more than i'm averaging per day) and i'm worried about it just helping the weight come on...i'm averaging my BMR and gaining weight! i'm worried because i feel like i'm going to do some drastic dieting if this doesnt work out. i dont want a lecture. PLEASE. but advice? help? experience?
if you increase you calories after restricting too much you are likely to gain weight if your body is malnourished. it's inevitable but something that must be done if you want to be healthy and someday be able to eat a normal amount of food without ballooning up. you are doing yourself a disservice by gaining on sub-BMR level, honestly it's not worth it because you'd probably gain an equal amount if you just bumped up your calories all at once, either way your body has to adjust and will cling to every morsel until it knows that food is available, so gaining on more is better in the long run. once your metabolism is up and running you can decrease to a reasonable level to lose it again. the time frame is completely dependent on your body and no one can really tell you exactly how long it will take to adapt.
Ok sorry I am confused with this BMR etc stuff. What are you eating daily now? Are you in a healthy weight range because I know this is hard but not everyone is meant to be super thin and sometimes one has to accept a slightly higher weight to be healthy. My nutritionist always said that if you control your body by 5 pounds even you will have to restrict,be unhealthy, and this will be controlling you mentally. It can take time for your body to adjust. The more back and forth you do the harder it is for your body to trust. Try to sit with the dicomfort and give your body time. In no means do I think this is easy but I do feel it is the right thing to do
if you're recovering from an ED why are you trying to lose weight?
anorexia isnt the only ED.
