Is body brushing for real?

Quote  |  Reply

Has anyone done the body brushing and actually think that it works. I would like to give it a try, but thinking it may just be another gimic to sell bath brushes.

If you're thinking that brushing can make cellulitis go away don't expect miracles. Brushing only exfoliates dead skin.

Cellulitis goes away with diet and exercise, there's no way around that.

I guess I am just getting so frustrated. Lost 80 pounds so far. Was 235 and now down to 155. I intend to finish at 130 at a 5' 2" medium frame. 39 years old two child births. The sag between the legs I think will budge in time, it's trying. It's that nasty sac of cottage cheese type skin with fat in it at the bottom of my stomach that has me ticked. I can live with a little bit, but this has not tightened up at all. I do treadmill, exercise bike, weight lifting, strength training, lotion, yhr ball, sit ups, you name it. I am hoping that it will tighten in the end, at least half way. I still have that pot belly to reduce.

Well, the gut and thigs are main fat deposits in women, in men it's just the gut, they are the hardest parts to shape up, and the fat in those areas is the last to go. Be patient, by the  time you reach 130 lbs the results will show. The exercise tightens the muscles underneath the fat, but the fat is still there sagging.

I've been there 5'6" /176lbs, now I'm 120 lbs and the saggy gut is gone.

Hey, we are in very similar situations. I have 2 kids. I am also 5'2" and I started at 224 lbs. My current weight is 168. Goal weight of 136 (this will most likely change once I reach it, but I just want to be in the "healthy" weight range.) I am really enjoying my new body, but my stomach grosses me out. It is wrinkly and sags down below... Yuck. My husband has been very very supportive of my weight loss and one of my motivating factors has been that he has promised when I get down to my goal weight he will pay for me to have my tummy tucked. Even if he has to sell some of his toys to do so. I don't know if he will actually follow through with this (money is tight up in our house), but it is a nice dream. For now I am happy that I can wear shorts (somehow my legs are pretty good until you get to the top half of my thighs). I am also pleasantly surprised that my boobs aren't sagging as bad as I thought they would. And my arms are fabulous! I am grateful that my body is changing and I should be proud of my saggy belly- it created 2 kids! But I do know the longing to have a perfect body after all the work you put into it.

P.S. YAY for the 80 lbs. you don't have to carry around anymore!!!

Thanks for the motivation everyone. This started with me because of over health reasons. Then as I went along I started looking more at the problem areas. Those problem areas are becoming a nuisance, so I start working on those. Now I think I am letting this become more of a vanity/health issue.

I've also heard that with time, the skin regains some of its elasticity, which should help as well.

But wear those remnants of childbearing with pride - they do mean something.  My oldest looked at my stretchmarks on my belly when I was carrying the youngest and said, "Ooh, pretty!  Mommy, you have a rainbow on your tummy!"  I think of that whenever I start hating my stripey fat.

ok, that must be a precious memory. It would have made me feel good too! Thanks!

I have heard some really good things about body brushing, but I haven't heard of it as a weight loss technique.

I would think it wouldn't hurt to try it and see if there's any difference in the look and your skin...I forget what all the benefits are actually supposed to be.  I have heard it's a bit time consuming, and of course, you have to learn to do it correctly.  It's interesting!  When someone first told me about it, I thought, "Wha??"
