Has anyone used any kind of cleansers for their system? Colon cleansing in particular. I am looking to just flush all the bad stuff out and start over. Anyone have any suggestions on products that they used or heard good things about?
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss to Health & Support forums. Calorie Count does not support cleanses for the purpose of weight loss.
Unless you are about to get a colonoscopy, there is absolutely no reason to cleanse your colon. Your body cleanses itself naturally, and it is not necessary to help it out.
If you want to "cleanse" focus on eating fruits, vegetables, lean meats, whole grains... in other words, REAL food.
its all BS, a marketing ploy proven by medical professionals.
eat healthily, and your body does the rest. your liver and kidneys filter out junk, and with adequite fibre (30g+) and water, your bowels excrete the waste products of metabolism.
hey, ive just started using oxytarm, only taking it a few days, it doesnt make ur stomach ill and i have gone to the loo more. they say it helps rid ur intestines of bad bacteria in a gentle way so said i would try it. its just magesium, vit c and bioflavanoids so dont think it could be bad for u. was afraid to try it in case i would be rushing for the loo but seems fine.
So I have never used one but I think that when you eat YAM NOODLES (with a special fiber in it - I cannot spell it - but if you google yam noodles you'll find it) and they tend to come RIGHT ON OUT along with other stuff that's stuck in there!
Unless you're sick, there aren't 'bad' bacteria in your intestines. And if this cleanse is just magnesium, vitaminds and bioflavanoids, there's no way it's getting rid of any bacteria anyway. You may feel better using this product, but it's psychological. About 1/4 to 1/3 of the population is very susceptible to the placebo effect.
I took CleanseSmart for 30 days. 2 pills in the AM & 2 at night. The only thing it did was make my face breakout...even my eyelid. I have these little dry red patches on my face. The health store person told me some people do have this type of reaction. I'll never do it again. It's a complete waste of money!
If I want to clean out my colon ...I'll eat prunes. ![]()
In most healthy people the colon is actually squeaky clean... ! If you have a good diet with your 5-a-day fruit and vegetables, plenty of wholegrain, high-fibre foods and you drink enough water your entire digestion (including your colon) will work beautifully well. If you're physically constipated then the 'bad stuff' is more normally backed up in the intestine and you'll have stomach-aches, bloating, watery diarrhoea and other symptoms.... and sometimes a laxative is necessary.
Unfortunately, colon cleansing is just the latest in a long line of unnecessary suggestions that are marketed to the 'worried well'.... hypochondriacs. Together with detoxes they won't do you any good and they could even upset the natural balance of your digestion. Where they start to get dangerous is when they're promoted as a sort of antidote to dietary/lifestyle excesses... it's much better to treat your body with respect than expect an occasional 'flush' to undo the damage.
Want to clease your body eat these foods...
Fruit
Fresh or frozen fruit.
Vegetables
All fresh vegetables. Vegetables thought to be particularly good detox foods include broccoli, cauliflower, broccoli sprouts, onions, garlic, artichokes, beets, red and green vegetables.
Rice
All forms of rice, including rice cakes, rice crackers and rice pasta. Brown rice is typically preferred.
Other Grains
Quinoa, amaranth, millet, and buckwheat can be used instead of rice. They can be purchased at a health food store or in some grocery stores.

Split yellow and green peas and lentils are easiest to digest and require the least soaking time. Other good options include kidney beans, pinto beans, mung beans, garbanzo beans (chickpeas) and adzuki beans.

Other Beverages
Water, lemon water, pure unsweetened fruit and vegetable juices, rice milk
Daily Detox Do's
Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day, warm or room temperature.
Take the time to chew food well, especially grains.
You need to make sure you're getting enough soluble and insoluble fibre - Insoluble (the fibre that forms bulk and regulates acidity and PH in the gut) and soluble (the fibre that helps regulate blood sugar and cholesterol).
Insoluble fibre examples:
-- Whole-wheat pastas, breads, etc
-- Quinoa
-- Brown rice
-- Bran products
-- Fruit and vegetable skins, such as potato skins, tomato skins, plum/prune skins, apple skins, pear skins
-- Nuts and seeds, particularly flax, almonds, brazil nuts and walnuts
Soluble fibre examples:
-- Oats
-- Rye
-- Barley
-- Potatoes of all varieties
-- Psyillium husks
-- Legumes and pulses, especially lentils, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), kidney beans, pinto beans and soybeans
And pretty much all fruits and vegetables. Particularly raspberries, plums, bananas, sweetcorn, prunes, apples, pears, blackberries, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels, asparagus, artichokes and dried fruit. Again, never introduce lots more fibre without drinking enough water to compensate. There is a more detailed list of fibre sources here for future reference.
Before you go for the cleanse, PLEASE consider sorting your fibre out first!
i read that the antioxidants our body needs helps flush out the "bad" stuff..i would recommend drinking acai berry, bluberry, and pomegranate juices.. also if u put it into smooties with light or fat free yogurt or frozen yogurt.. you can even use it as a meal alternative.. also just eating raw bluberries and pomegranate
Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I really appreciate it.
I recently visited the site below and it has some really good info on cleansing and the customers reviews made me want to try. I'm waiting for my order now. I'll let you know how it goes.
Sorry. I'm calling horse poop on this one. Absolutely, absolutely not necessary. The stuff they give you probably won't hurt you, but what a waste of money. Have you read anything we said above?
