What is body dismorphic disorder?
Asked by anonymous on Mar 12, 2007 in Eating Disorders

What's a body dysmorphic disorder? Does it mean I'm like disfigured?

Answer

People with Body Dysmorphic Disorder often see themselves as ugly or disfigured. They are obsessed by negative thoughts about their appearance, even when they look perfectly fine. Body Dysmorphic Disorder is treated by a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy with a trained therapist and antidepressant medication.  Read about Body Dysmorphic Disorder from the Eating Disorders Guide at About.com.
