Body Fat / BMI / Weight Maintenance challenge - Starts July 21st through September 15th!

Quote  |  Reply

Hey, all!

Okay, so for more than 100 days, I've worked with a lot of great people to drop weight.  I've dropped a lot.

I still want to drop a little more, but only as I add muscle.  So... this is a challenge for both.  Over the next eight weeks, we:

1) Will weigh in twice a week.  Mondays and Thurdays.

2) On Mondays, we need to check body fat and BMI and see where we're at.  It doesn't matter how you measure this stuff, as long as you keep measuring it the same way over the course of the challenge.  :)

It won't be pretty.. BUT... I think it's a nice honing mechanism for those of us that are getting closer to our goal, while still working together with those that have a little more to lose.

Eight weeks!  Who's in?

Happy Thursday every one!

Ran on Monday. Still having trouble making good food and exercise fit my schedule.

  • CW: 191 ( I lost some water weight)
  • GW: 183 (by September 15)
  • Goal: Aerobic activity 5 out of 7 days
  • Current: Aerobic activity 1 out of 3 days ( not so good)
  •  Goal: Weight lifting 3 out of 7 days
  • Current: Weight lifting 0 out of 3 days ( really not good)
  • Pilates or Yoga 2 out of 7 days ( None at all)
  • Calorie goal 1,400 - 1,750 per day ( I have no clue. I have not had time to keep track.)
  • fat goal 10-20 g per day  (ditto)
  • Hey there!

Okay, I'm in the weird part where I might be gaining a little bit, but I'm working very hard to gain muscle.  I'm not sure what the ratio is but... whatever.  Here we go.

  • CW: 172.8  (+.4 lbs, but I attribute to that to varied times of weighing)
  • GW: 169.0
  • BMI: 22.91 (Goal 22, up .06 from Monday)
  • BF%: 15.0 (according to scale upstairs)
  • I'm not being super aggressive on any of this stuff this week, mostly because it's my first day back in the gym in three weeks because of my back blow out.  HOWEVER... I want to make sure the weight isn't a trend, but a day by day fluctuation.

Also, for ease of use, I'll be using my upstairs / old scale Body Fat calculator which might not be  spot on, but it will be consistent.  I can use it every day.

Anyway:  Feels like I'm doing okay.  Maybe that's 7 ounces of muscle I put on since Monday.  Who knows?  Keeping you posted, and seeing you Monday...

Your bodyfat % can go up when you lose weight if you lose muscle instead of fat.  The bodyfat is a ratio and if you lose muscle, then the ratio goes up on the fat side even if your scale says your weight goes down.

This is why keeping track of bodyfat % is so crucial while losing weight because you want to know if  you are losing muscle or fat.  You want all the muscle you can get, since it will raise your metabolism and it's healthy.

See if the bodyfat is a trend.  I stopped using my scale to measure it and use a caliper. Even if the actual bodyfat % is not 100% accurate based on my own measuring it will be consistent and I can see the caliper measurements go down over time.

For some reason, I'm not finding 63% as accurate.  I'm more inclined to believe the 42% over the 63%.  32% bodyfat is considered obese in women.  Maybe your fiance is correct as he knows you and sees you, but I still find it hard to believe, though it is possible for yours to be 63%.

How does the YMCA measure your bodyfat?  Are they doing it with any measurements or are you using a scale to tell you?  If you really want to know, find a professional to give you measurement.  Maybe your doctor can suggest someone to do the measurement.

Happy Monday!  Today stinks for me.  Back to work after taking a nice 2 week time off from work.  My brain is rested, but it still doesn't want to go back.  Busy now as peewee football starts, so I'll be coaching 5 nights a week this month.  Good exercise as I'll be running with the 6, 7 and 8 year olds for 2 hours a night.

Here is what I have for my numbers on 7/28/08:

    CW: 189.6 (-1.8)

    GW: 180.0

    BMI: 27.1

    CBF%: 14.8% (11mm on the caliper)

    GBF%: < 12% (6-7mm on the caliper)

    7/24/08 - 187

    Total Loss: 1.75 pounds

I switched to the following calculator because it seems much more realistic.  http://www.healthstatus.com/cgi-bin/calc/calc ulator.cgi

    Hey all,

bpcrue, congrats on your loss!! bet those kids will have you run ragged, but thin of the calories burned!!!

Alle, congrats with the loss!!  And I think that calculator is more accurate also and I'm going to switch to that one.

    Monday;

    Stormy Monday.

    Crummy grey Monday.
