Body for Life vs. New Rules of Lifting for Women
I'm debating about starting one of these programs...I have 25 lbs to lose and also want to gain muscle. Any thoughts from people who have tried either program?
Thanks!
They're not dissimilar in concept, though the Body-for-life thing is mostly a front-end for sales of EAS protein supplements and other junk; and BFL is a 12-week program where NROLW will last you a lot longer if you do it as written.
On the whole I'd recommend NROLW over BFL - if nothing else, NROLW comes with a built-in support group right here on CC. It does come down to preference more than anything though, both programs involve lifting reasonably challenging weights 3xweekls and doing some endurance training on your non-lifting days so on a more abstract level than sets-and-reps nitpicking they're mostly interchangeable. Consistency counts for far more than the details that separate the two, so go with whichever one appeals to you the most, yeah?

I remember when BFL first started it's 12 week contest years ago and Bill Phillips was claiming that it wasn't about METRX or any prescribed methods but rather a challenge for people to take what they already knew about diet and nutrition put it to practical use. Now it's just seems to be a way to sell books and METRX etc.
I don't know anything about NROLW but I have been using the training schedule for BFL. I think it's great. I can tell that I'm gaining good muscle because my clothes are fitting much better even though the scale says I've only lost 3 lbs. Everything is tightening up. I'm on my 4th week and have already upped the amount of weights I'm able to lift considerably. The contest is twelve weeks but you don't have to enter to get the training schedule. I also don't take any of the supplements and I use CC to keep track of my eating and burn.
