Is my Body out of propotion? Need advice on attacking flabby body.
While not losing any weight in the last 6 months but only inches I am starting to feel my body is out of propotion. My waist has gotten smaller but my hips area is still the same and my thighs have slightly decreased in size too.
Here are my stats:
Age 29. Height 5'3. Current Weight 130. Goal Weight 120/115
January 08 - March 08 - September 08
Weight 142 -132 - 130
Hips 38 - 38 - 38
Waist 137 - 136 - 132
Thighs 25 - 24 - 22
Arms   ; 11 - 11 -11
Calves 13 - 13 - 14
Also although I have lost inches I don't feel any different - I thought I would be less flabby around the areas I have lost weight but they are still the same (just smaller). I have been working out 3 to 4 times a week. Most of my work out is cardio used to go for a walk and now trying to add jogging into the routine.
What should I do to get rid of the jiggly flab??? Any advice is appreciated. I am thinking adding strength training to my routine - would that help?
Try doing some Pilates. I used to work out like you, just doing light cardio. I had the same results--got smaller but remained flabby. I've recently incorporated Pilates (muscle strengthening) into my workout routine and I can feel the difference already. I love how my body feels a little bit firmer every week. There are lots of Pilates workouts and similar things on Youtube--just go search for them. Hope this helps.
There's nothing wrong with doing pilates in addition to your other exercise, but pilates alone? Nah. It's like with Yoga - unless you're skinnYogi and live the practice every day, you're not going to see results - unless you have the time to turn Pilates into your part-time job, you're not going to see results comparable to spending the same amount of time on proper strength training.
it's all about balance!
You should definitely add some strength training in there... get dumbells and do push ups / planks ... Your not strength training that's why your feeling flabby... whether you use your own body for strength training or some dumbells -- either or you need resistance in your body for muscle...
Eat more protein, and do strength training to build muscle. Alternate strength training days with cardio days to burn the fat, and you'll definitely tone up. Good luck! :)
Thank you all for the wonderful reply. I do not enjoy strength training and everytime I plan on working with weights I have found an excuse not to go work out. But I will force my self - I am sure once I get used to lifting and start seeing results I will enjoy weights.
Thank you Melkor - One of the reasons I did not lift weights was becasue I was afraid of bulking up but after watching the video I am no longer afraid.
I do not include a lot of protein in my diet - I will start adding more. Thank you stronger.
warble02 - I will add pilates to my routine to add varity to my current work out plan.
Thank you. I don't enjoy going to the gym - I feel like a fool not being able to lift even 10 to 20 lbs...I will use my own body and give strenght training a shot :-)
I'd recommend a class, if you can find one locally. It's great to meet other hoopers. If there's no class available, search YouTube for "hoop dancing" for inspiring examples, and "hoop dancing tutorial" for some instructions on how to do cool tricks.
