When did your body get use to the increase in water intake? How many months?
I sit here typing this post with an urgent need to use the bathroom. I just did 10 mins ago! Some days aren't bad but those are in the minority. Also for some reason I tend to go A LOT when the aftern turns around. I dread when it hits 2 pm! So of course I feel a bit self concious as I walk to the restroom again for the umpteenth time in the last 30 mins. I do like getting up an moving..I would like it better if I wasn't doing a verision of the pee dance as I scurry on my way...
I increased my water intake in March. I drink about a gallon a day.
Anyone???
Also are there guidelines for how much water is too much?
I'd also like to know these answers! I hate walking down the hallway AGAIN! I usually take a different direction each time - at least I have that. But I am just tired of peeing!
I haven't even made it to a gallon a day!
I've started taking creative routes to the bathroom...however sometimes its an emergency! One day I know someone is gonna ask me if I have explosive diareahh! LOL!
lol I know... someone is gonna think I have a problem!
I guess if you feel like you're going to explode, slow down on the drinking. I know there are times I'm almost forcing myself to chug and maybe that's bc my body has had enough. I remember someone recommending some formula using your weight to determine how many oz you should drink. The topic is pretty recent. If you type water in the search section under forums, you should find your answer.
You said you are drinking a gallon of water a day! I think that is a lot more than you need. The normal recommendation for water is 8 - 10 eight ounce glasses, which is 64 - 80 ounces. A gallon is 128 ounces, so you are drinking twice what you need.
I have a very small bladder to begin with, then I started drinking tons of water and it's only made this problem worse. Better out than in though, I like to weigh myself after these frequent bathroom breaks cause I'm always lighter when I pee it all out :)
Atleast water doesn't run through me like sweet tea did. I've stopped drinking it but when I did I'd pee every 15 minutes hah

I've had 114 oz so far for the day
And it's not like I am super thirsty or anything.
I PEE ALL THE TIME! even when I don't drink anything! haha. get used to it :P
hehe
Well, you do need a gallon per day. But, what most "water drinking spokesmen" forget to mention, is that you get quite a lot thru your diet. Keep it at half a gallon per day and well, if you feel that it's to much anyway, you're not gonna die without it either. I drink a lot of unsweetened red tea, but I didn't get to a gallon a day overnight, it took some time. And when I get up to 2 gallons a day, (yep, happens all the time) you'd be sure to catch me running to the bathroom every 20 minutes too!

I was hoping that my body would adjust by now. I guess I have to be patient. I dodn't start going ot the bathroom until the early afternoon. It tapers off till I go for my walk between 6 and 7 pm (during the week). I drink after I work out and it doesn't keep me away at night.
I find that i pee less often, in larger quantities when i add some sort of fruit to my water - lemons, lime, or apple mostly.. I don't really know why, it just seems that way.. I also drink a lot more when i add fruit... I aim for a gallon of water a day and the trips to the bathroom do get quite old
It's possible to die from water intoxication, but you'd have to consume about 2 gallons of water in less than an hour for that to happen. I believe the only people to have died from overdosing on water have either been involved in hazing incidents or contests.
A gallon a day sounds like a lot, but if you're in a dry climate it's probably not excessive.

There are about 10 questions that need to be answered. But it gives how many ounces / liters that you should be drinking.
I am drinking 140 - 160 ounces a day. I did have to go about every ten minutes or so. But my body has adjusted. So it is maybe once an hour.
I guess really it also has to do with how much fiber that I take in. That also slows that water process down a little.
I have been on this journey for about a year (July 16, 2008)
I have Meniere's disease so I'm used to drinking a lot of water. I was on a perscription diuretic for a long time. It takes awhile to get used to the new water intake; and I mean give it a good two months. I had to eat low salt and take the diuretic which makes you drink a lot of water and causes you to pee a lot. Eight is the recommended daily amount but I try to drink upwards of 10 just because I love water!

That's a really helpful link! Thanks!
corinth13 - I have Meniere's Disease as well and curerntly take a diuretic. I want to get off the diuretic soon to try to have a baby but I am nervous that my symptoms will get worse. How was it for you when you went off the diuretic? Any suggestions? Did continuing to drink a lot of water and lower salt intake help?

haha. I used to be one of those ppl who are like a camel. Most of my life, with certain exceptions, I could go a whole day and only drink about 8 oz. of ANYTHING. Lol. I would seriously only have like a glass of something to drink a day, and most of the time it wasn't water. I was just never thirsty. Idk what that was about. When I decided that I wanted to get healthier I upped my water intake. First to about 40 oz. a day then to a liter. Now to a quart and a half. My body has slowly gotten used to it but I do find myself having to pee less and less. lol.
