Should a bodybuilder eat 6 meals a day?
Asked by anonymous on Jun 06, 2008 in Fitness

I read on the net that eating 6 meals during the day helps the body to absorb protein, therefore the body can build more muscle. The diet would be about 20% fat (good fats), 40% protein and 40% carbs or something close to those percentages depending on the type of body.

Answer

It doesn’t matter whether you eat six meals a day or three, but your meals should be evenly spaced and each meal should contain carbohydrate, protein and fat. It is also important to eat enough carbohydrate to meet your energy requirements in order to spare protein for building muscles. For maximum muscle building, you must eat a meal that contains carbohydrate and protein within an hour or less after training. For body builders, the correct distribution of energy nutrients should be about 60% carbohydrate, 20% protein, and 20% fat.
