mystery, fantasy, thriller, chick book, romance, beach reads, memoirs, nonfiction?
I personally loved the Twilight series! I read the first 3 books in a week because I couldn't put them down! If you go on barnesandnoble.com you can read the first chapter and reviews to see if its something you would be interested in. oh, and The host was also a really good book, and definitely something to check out if you like science fiction.
Any fiction by Jim Harrison.
Hmmm, I have tons of recommendations. I'm currently reading Kushiel's Mercy (5th in a series).
I recently read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It's the first in a series, but the rest aren't out yet. An awesome book!
I'm also reading another continuing series By Kim Harrrison. The first in the series was Dead Witch Walking. Lots of fun to read.
I love Sci-fi, fantasy, mysteries, thrillers, etc. So I could probably continue with a very long list. These are just a few of my more recent reads :)
Edit: Wow I was thrown by the "Jim Harrison" mention above. I had to go check that my recommendation of "Kim Harrison" was correct.... it is.
If you like horror novels, you might try Salem's Lot by Stephen King. It's a fantastic book.
I second the "Twilight" series. It's a young adult series about vampires but many, many adults love it and even if you don't usually like vampire stuff (which I'm not usually into), you'll still like this one. Also the movie comes out in Nov. so if you're interested I'd read it before seeing the movie.
I'm thinking about rereading Connie Willis' "Doomsday Book." It's a very cool sci-fi, historical, time travel kind of book.
If you really love literature and are in the mood for something kind of different and silly, the Thursday Next series is fun. The first one is "The Eyre Affair."
Ummm, that's just some stuff I'm into lately, so I'll leave it at that.

I'm currently making my way through Terry Pratchett's 'Discworld' novels.... I'm loving it, I'm only on about book 5 and there's so many more to go! They've all been brilliant and i'm not looking forward to the day when i've read every single one
Those are some of the best books ever! I haven't read them all in order, mainly because they're so hard to find!
Ack!
I was JUST about to recommend the Twilight books :P
Besides the Twilight series, Stephenie Meyer wrote an equally amazing book called The Host. It isn't part of the series and is technically "adult," not "teen" and is a fabulous read.
I am partial to Dean Koontz myself. I read one of his books and got hooked. Now I have a shelf full of them.
1. "The Namesake" by Jhump Lahiri (I love, love this book. I just bought another of her books , "Interpreter of Maladies", that I'm going to read on my flight back to Korea. She's an Indian author so her stories revolve around Indian families and such. "The Namesake" was also made into a movie which is one of maybe two books-to-movies that I thoroughly enjoyed).
2. "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini (both set in Afghanistan; first is set around childhood friends and the second is about women in Afghanistan-- love this author).
3. "Middlesex: A Novel" by Jeffrey Eugenides (I've only read the first few pages so far but I've heard soooo many great things about this book).
4. Anything by Augusten Burroughs (except for "Sellevision")- He writes memoirs-- very funny.
5. Anything by David Sedaris- also memoirs--- also very funny.
Ok... I'm getting tired of trying to remember authors...
- "Three Cups of Tea" (memoir about an American guy starting his own NGO and building schools that will teach girls in rural Pakistan.
- "Little Children" (about an affair but a good book, I thought)
- "Untouchables" (This Indian man wrote a book from his parents diaries about their struggle to rise above their class of the 'untouchables' to give their children a better life)
- "A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier" (written by a guy who was forced into being a child soldier... very sad, some parts made me sick to my stomach but a great book).
I like to read to escape reality. So I don't do real dramas, or anything like that. I like sci-fi, fantasy, historical romance, paranormal romance, thrillers, etc....
Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series is pretty good, if you have alot of time. They are pretty thick and detailed.
Lisa Kleypas is a great historical romance author. All of hers are pretty good.
Patricia Briggs has a good series about werewolves, etc....Bloodbound, I think the first is called.
Diana Gabaldon (not sure of that spelling) has a great time travel romance series.........The Drums of Autumn is one, in that series. Really good.
I love the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich There are 14 books starting with One for the Money These are fun mystery type books.
also the In Death series by JD Robb (AKA Nora Roberts).

I'll second Salem's Lot. I think it was King's best, although I've been thinking about re-reading The Stand, too. I don't normally read westerns, but try "Lonesome Dove." It was great! And if you haven't seen it, watch the mini-series after you read the book.
My favorite book of all time is The Lord of the Rings, although it's hard to recommend because it is tough to start.
Another book I loved after a friend recommended it was "Follow the River." It was based on a true story of a woman who was taken by Indians and her trip back along the Ohio (I think) river.
That same friend recommended "Gone With the Wind" which I read and surprised myself by loving it.
I spend too much time on the computer. I used to read, read, read. Computers are evil. I need to set aside one night a week to leave the computer off and read instead.
I second The Name of the Wind.
Also, anything by Brandon Sanderson. He has a website, brandonsanderson.com where he has a lot of sample chapters and he even has an ebook called warbreaker that he's working on publishing. I really recomend the Mistborn Trilogy first, but ALL OF THEM ARE WONDERFUL.
Suzanne Collins, all her books are great too. For YA, but amazing and very imaginitive.
Jim Butcher's Codex Alera and Dresden Files.
Carol Berg bridge of D'Arnath series
Kristin Britain's Green Rider books.
Trudi Canavan's Black Magician Trilogy
I am reading the Mists of Avalon...must read!!
I second the Stephanie Plum novels...they are hillarious..
