So I am boosting my calorie intake to 1800....
So heres the deal, I have lost A LOT of weight calorie counting. Even though it says a teen male should eat 1800 bare minimium for the last past 2 months I have been eating 1500......when I first started dieting it was WAY below that. Not a good thing. So yes unfortunally I have been eating 1500 calories a day when I KNOW I should be eating atleast 1800 calories a day. I am not try to loose anymore weight.....just trying to mantain now. I know I should be eating around 2100 calories to mantain but I am going to get there slowly. For now I am going to boost up my calorie intake to 1800 then gradualy bring up my calories to that. Just thought I share with you guys that I am going to be eating the correct amount of calories now. Wish me luck ![]()
good luck just don't get too comfortable at 1800 because that isn't the "Correct number" simply the minimum for WEIGHT LOSS for a male teen. it is a step in the right direction so congratulations.
1800 is the bare minimum for a teen male to lose weight. Whether you realize it or not, you can maintain on a lot more than that even with very little to no activity. I'm not sure what your stats are, but you can try plugging them in here for a good recommendation on how much you should eat: http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html
Now since you were technically undereating, you might see a tiny increase in weight, but it will even out quickly. Good luck!! :)

That's not the right number at all and you should check out the link that goobyb posted. Even if you're only lightly active.... less than an hour of activity a day..... a boy your age and size needs 2700 cals a day to maintain. If you 'get there slowly' all that happens is that you remain malnourished for much longer than necessary. That's really bad for your health and will stunt your growth and development.
If you've got disordered eating problems and struggle to eat normally then go to see a doctor and get some professional help rather than coming back to the CC community.

I am glad you have this tool to pinpoint your goals and real experience. Our perceptions of what we need (or don't need) can vary dramaticly.
I recently turned my room-mate on to this site and he found he was eating 3000 calories a day before dinner! Before using this website he thought he was doing "pretty good" on his "diet". Not he hates me.

Yeah, your right. I know not to argue with gi jane
I have seen how those things go down! Ahaha. But yes, The only reason why I wanted to build it up slowly is so that my body can get used to eating more instead of putting all that on my metabolism at once you know? As for malnorished comment, don't you think thats a little much to say? But I don't know much about malnourishment and I very much could be. What are the symptoms of malnourishment? Also I am eating over 1800 so there is no need to have that "starvation diet" comment mmk? (: Not trying to argue!
Really, you should only eat 1800 if you're a tiny, short person in a coma 24/7. If you've been eating 1800 or close to it, it most likely is not enough to sustain you. As for malnourishment, you can still be malnourished without any obvious symptoms. Rather than take the chance to wait for the symptoms to appear, why not simply up your intake a bit? It's really personal preference about how quickly to up your calories, but I would recommend taking no longer than 2 or 3 days to do so. I mean, why delay?? But of course, the final decision is up to you.
