Boosting maintenance

Quote  |  Reply

Just wondering, if I boosted my intake up to 4000 or something would it help my metabolism in the long run so that I can maintain on higher?

I'm curious about this too! Right now I'm eating 3000 to gain, but I could totally go for 4000! Especially if it helped my metabolism in the long run...

I think it depends on the individual, and the body's needs. Eating 6billion calories a day isn't going to boost your metabolism up there. The more you eat though, more will be burnt due to the thermic effect of food. But I don't think you can really set your own metabolism to super-high. Of course, it might help, you could try it if you want.

I'm a lil' curious about this too. Anyone have an answer?

I don't think there is an answer - everyone is different and what works for one person won't necessarily work for another.

Agreed.

But it did seem to work for me. There are repercussions, though. Be prepared to literally wet the bed... with sweat :P

Some ?'s to ask yourself are what are you eating now,how much do you need to gain, and what is the current rate of gain? When I was ip years ago I ate over 4000 a day. I am not sure if it increased my metabolism but they felt at my rate of gain and the amount I needed that I had to be that high.

It varies from person to person. Some people are prone to going into a hyper-metabolic state, others are not. I've known girls in IP who's intake never exceeded 3,000. My own ended up being 4600-5000 while inpatient to gain 1-2lbs a week. At home, I needed 3600-4000 to gain a pound.

As a note - your metabolism will remain boosted initially while maintaining, but over time as your body adjusts to being healthy - your metabolism will return to pretty much normal. I need far more than what the calculator on CC says I need to maintain my weight - minimum 2500 (CC says I should eat 1600-1800) but that's just me. When I first started maintaining - I needed 3000-3200. Now I've started gaining again - and I can eat 2800-3200 and gain about .5 lbs a week.
