Anyone else eat terribly when you drink? I had a few hard ciders with friends last night and binged a bit. I laughed when I thought of binging on granola bars and bananas, but it still shot my caloric intake to twice what I'd wanted for the day. (My estimate was around 4,000 calories for the day! Luckily, with my expenditure and my long workout, I should have burned off all but 500 or so of those.)
The calories in alcohol itself don't worry me. If I have wine, I know it's around 100 calories a glass and I'm fine with it. The eating that comes with boozing is awful, though, and I wanted to know if you all have that experience, too.
Does anyone know why we might eat more when we drink alcohol?

I'm exactly the same way.
It's like someone who used to smoke. They put all this time and energy into quitting but then once they have a few drinks, the first thing they do is smoke a cigarette (or two or three or a pack).
It's the loss of self-control that comes with drinking that helps us get to binge mode.
As for binging on granola bars and bananas, I'm there with you too. My guilty binging food is 14-grain bread with peanut butter. Not unhealthy in and of itself, until you scarf down 4 or 5 pieces.

Im right there with you, Im notorious for a late night peanut butter and banana sandwich after going out and having a few beers, and Im not even that much of an Elvis fan! Although too much pizza and beer in the past has made me somewhat resemble the older elvis =-/ .
I am definatly the same....I know that I used the alcohol as an excuse to "do whatever I want". Somehow while Im drinking I talk myself into beleiveng that the calories I consume don't matter.... Until I wake up the next morning not only feeling gross becaus eof the alcohol but from the Junk food hangover as well. That's why I am giving up alchol Until my exams are done in April.... maybe even longer! I started this week, and for the first Saturday in a long while I feel fantastic today, and ( althought I over ate slightly at a party last night I didnt jump off into the deep and hey guess what? No guilt complex about last night! Anyone want to join me in an alcohol free March?
I'm slightly different. I never eat when I drink but I get sooo worried about all the calories I've just had for every glass. I spent a long time at the liquor mart yesterday looking for low calorie drinks I could have haha.
Used to be a beer drinker..gosh I love it but I have cut that out.

I would definitely be on board for an alcohol-free March if it weren't for my Spring Break trip to Costa Rica. However, I'll join you before and after that!
Haha yes, with alcohol comes the loss of inhibitions..and well, it generally takes an awful lot of work to avoid food in a normal state..let alone an influenced one!
I only drink when my b/f is around (he's 27 and an avid scotch drinker..ick) so it only happens about 3 or 4 times a month...thus I'm not that concerned about it. Plus, when I do drink, it's either at his house (where i don't feel like i should snack on all of his food!) or at a hotel/out to dinner where I don't have an option to snack lol.

alcohol causes a spike in your blood sugar so that you get hungry again when it crashes.
