Booze v breakfast?

Quote  |  Reply

Ok, I have been a good boy, actually a very good boy for 3 weeks now. Diet is going well and not missed any exercise except for modifying one weight session to avoid standing (blisters from a walk).

I started out at 16 1/2 stone and anticipate being at least a pound under 16 stone tomorrow.

If I have met that target, I am giving myself a reward. It's a 2200 cal day on the zig zag, though I'll go a little over. I'm going to have either a cooked breakfast (sausage, bacon, eggs, toast) or a bit of a booze in the evening (max 2 bottles wine).

Which would be the least bad?

and, what would you guys have?

whether or not it is less bad... I always go for the booze as a reward... probably not a good thing but if you enjoy wine (I enjoy rum!) I would choose the booze over the sausage any day...

I would choose booze for breafast... kill two birds with one stone.  ;)

if you can drink two bottles of wine and NOT EAT then you are a better man that I.

2 bottles of wine :s?

I'd most definitely go with food over booze, that breakfast sounds way more appealing...maybe actually have "a bit" of wine too, like 2-4 glasses. As for which is less bad, at least the breakfast has nutrients to it.

How about one bottle of wine and one half of that breakfast.  Get the best of both worlds!

Congratulations on your success!  My opinion however is not going to answer your question.  I believe you might want to consider getting away from using food as a reward for losing weight.  Once you start doing that you begin to associate food with any success and celebration in your life.

Eating more food is not the reward for losing weight.  You need to find different weight loss objectives or you'll find you won't be able to keep the weight off because once you reach your goal your reward will be to eat, and then what?

Incorporating the foods we love in moderation daily/weekly/monthly for life is a much better solution than cutting them completely then rewarding ourselves with splurges.

(oh, and the wine isn't much better ;) )

I would go for the wine, because the bacon and sausage have so much sodium that I know I would regret it for the next week. 2 bottles of wine are bettered shared with a friend too Wink

Thanks for the views! I think on balance the wine gets it. If I had the breakfast I'd spend all day knowing I'd had my treat.

I take your point shandykat. My rule however, is only to use food as a treat for good eating! That way, it does form part of the diet. I wouldn't use food as a means to celebrate anything else I might have achieved. That is a slippery slope. What if I had a run of wins of the horses?!

I would definitely choose the breakfast. If you do the wine and then have even a mini hangover the next day that can throw you for a loop... greasy breakfast, skip the work out. For sure go with the yummy breakfast. Plus the other thing is that you can get eggs from pastured chickens (high in omega-3's) and grass fed pork sausage and it will not as horrible for you. Just my opinion. I have fallen into the alcohol trap. It tends to carry onto the next day. :(

Congratulations.  I would suggest a nice Merlot and beside a minimum of 4 oz is good for your heart (lol).Wink

Alcohol wins that race hands down!!! Cool

Kaff, this cracked me up.  If we ever met, I'm sure we'd be best friends!   :)

kaffwynn, LOL -

andybarc, check this out: http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/diet/adv ice/alcohol.htm

I'd take the breakfast... and one or two GLASSES of wine as well. Two bottles is a gross overconsumption of alcohol, and enough to make you very sick the next day... not to mention your poor liver!
